Emerging into the Swedish underground in 1995 as Nocturnal, before morphing into Demogorgon in 1996 and finally settling on their true identity later that same year, Korp have released an array of well received albums and EPs over the thirty years since their journey began. Their individual and characterful blend of black, death and thrash metal; of melody, atmosphere and devastating heaviness has secured them a place in the annals of Scandinavian metal. But their race is far from run…now, in 2025, they are set to release their fourth and finest full length album, a collection of dark hymns that invoke the spirit of the night, a blood chilling howl from the shadows, And Darker It Shall Become.
Bursting into life with the overwhelming onslaught of ‘Blood Upon The Throne’, Korp set out the agenda for all that is to follow – enveloping atmosphere, riff after magnificent riff, enticing melody, venomous vocalisations, multi-faceted songs, irresistible hooks and an insidious sense of the sinister. Every song has an array of secrets to share and each one is delivered with a breathtaking ferocity. Be it the majestic, surging power of ‘The Night’s Embrace’ – charging into the eye of the storm with a fierce intensity and gritted teeth velocity – or the evocative ‘Heaven Ablaze’, combining thrilling riffing with a sense of drama and narrative. Each track delivers both an immediate impact and a sense of enthrallment that lasts. With And Darker It Shall Become Korp have not only surpassed their own previous achievements, but also thrown down the gauntlet to all practitioners of dark, extreme metal.
And Darker It Shall Become will be unleashed upon the world on September 5th, in CD and digital formats, by Grind To Death Records. The superb artwork of Balázs Pénzes of Grafit Hamu Artworks (Witcher, Vrag etc) puts the final seal upon Korp’s malignant masterpiece – making this an unmissable album for all disciples of the black.
