‘The Fest That Celebrates Itself’
Ireland’s first and only shoegaze festival, bringing together bands from all over Ireland and Northern Ireland to celebrate the sounds of hazy reverberated fuzz and dreamy melodies.
Taking its tag line from a Melody Maker coined phrase ‘The Scene That Celebrates Itself’, which referred to how shoegaze bands in early 90’s London avoided traditional rivalries but instead were often seen at each other’s gigs, sometimes playing in each other’s bands, and drinking together. This is at the heart of what GazeFest is about, bringing together like minded individuals, both bands and crowd, to celebrate some of the most exciting talent across the island.
The festival will take place over two dates August 25th and August 26th. The first date will take place in the iconic Workmans Club main room in Dublin and see a smaller line up of Wynona Bleach, Virgins and Genma to begin the festivities. Wynona Bleach are crunchy-gaze-grunge-pop from Belfast, already signed to Fierce Panda with a sold out debut album ‘Moonsoake’ under their belts. and after making a name for themselves at home they’re about to take off to play New York and South by South West festivals. Genma are relatively new to the scene but already making waves in their native Dublin having played the Next Big Thing Festival.
The second date on August 25th is the main event being held in Oh Yeah Centre, Belfast and boasts a massive 10 band line running from 2pm-11pm. Headliners Virgins toured the UK and released their debut EP ‘Transmit a Little Heaven’ through Blowtorch Records last year to accolades from press and radio a like and were a regular staple on various end of year lists. Wynona Bleach also play the Belfast date accompanied by The Drive (Cork), Wohn, Big Daisy, Fulvetta (Dublin), Madams Last Discovery, Klyda, Blue Slate (Dublin) and Lipgloss.
The Belfast date is 14+ giving young people the opportunity to be a part of and experience some of the most exciting talent Ireland has to offer.
