Light Grey is excited to announce the release of their final single, ‘Director’s Cut’, ahead of their forthcoming album Nightm@res, set to drop on September 27th. This track represents a bold new direction for the band, melding pop-punk energy with heavier, darker elements, showcasing their determination to push the boundaries of their sound.
“‘Director’s Cut’ is my way of expressing the frustration and confusion that comes with mixed signals,” shares Light Grey’s frontman Ciaran. “It’s about the pain of hearing every excuse in the book, except the honest truth. Sometimes, it’s not the rejection that hurts the most—it’s the ambiguity and the endless guessing game.”
Musically, ‘Director’s Cut’ is a high-octane blend of crackling downtuned guitars, energetic breakbeats, and intense vocals. The track is a prime example of Light Grey’s evolution, as they explore a heavier side of pop-punk, influenced by artists like Stand Atlantic and The Story So Far. “We wanted to see how far we could push ourselves within the genre but also stay true to our current sound,” the band explains. “‘Director’s Cut’ is all about capturing that feeling when you’re stuck in a loop of indecision and mixed signals, and you just want to break free.”
“This track is a direct response to the avoidance and excuses we face in relationships—it’s loud, unapologetic, and unfiltered,” says Light Grey. “There’s a rawness to ‘Director’s Cut’—it’s the sound of pushing past the politeness, demanding the truth, and letting go of what holds you back.”
‘Director’s Cut’ was recorded entirely at home, a process that allowed Light Grey to fully immerse themselves in the creative journey. “We down-tuned the guitars to the lowest point before it was just string noise, aiming for a heavy sound that matched the intensity of the lyrics,” the band explains. “This track is a punchy, relentless anthem for anyone who’s ever been strung along—where silence and half-truths speak louder than words.”
As the final single before the release of Nightm@res, ‘Director’s Cut’ sets the stage for an album that delves into themes of sleepless nights, frustration, and the darker sides of human emotion.
