2025 marks the coming together and closure of some powerful circles in the career of FISH, enigmatic solo artist for the last 37 years and former frontman of the band Marillion.
His current Road To The Isles headline tour brings to a close his touring musical legacy, with these final shows acting as the prelude to his retirement and a new life in the Outer Hebrides. Having made its way across Europe at the end of last year, the ever-changing setlists journeying through his illustrious catalogue on the Road To The Isles headline tour, have proved a delight to fans and critics.
“Covering all the bases from spiralling hard rock to the poignant… it shows the breadth of Fish as a lyricist; the working class chronicler, the weary warrior poet, a melancholic lover, an unashamed romantic. Still one of rock’s great raconteurs, [tonight] Fish stuns central Europe.” – Classic Rock review of Tivoli, Utrecht, October 2024
Regarding the forthcoming UK tour FISH says, ”In a few weeks’ time I’ll be standing on a stage in a sold-out Haddington Corn Exchange and remembering that this was where it all started with my solo career in 1989. It’s going to be an emotional performance across these two nights which set up my final shows in the UK and the last section of the ‘Road To The Isles’ tour.
“The European leg was very special indeed and I can’t remember enjoying singing and performing as much as I did across those 32 gigs. I had a fantastic time and achieved exactly what I set out to do. To leave behind powerful and emotive shows that would last a long time in the memories of fans.
“The UK nights are going to be awesome indeed with every venue holding something unique and promising so much for everyone both on and off stage. To be retiring on this wave is a wonderful feeling and I cannot adequately express how much this all means to me after over 40 years in the music business performing on stages across the world.
“It’s going to be difficult to process the emotions involved but after the final Glasgow gig in March when I stand on the ferry heading over the sea to the Outer Hebrides and our new home I will have the biggest smile on my face imaginable.”
FISH is also delighted to announce a special supporting artist for his shows at the London Palladium (Feb 25th) and Aylesbury Waterside (Feb 28th). He will be joined at these performances by indie-folk singer/songwriter Alissimon, daughter of William ‘Diz’ Minnitt, the original Marillion bassist who joined FISH in Aylesbury in 1980.
“I’ve been aware of Alissimon through my longtime friend Diz who needless to say is a proud father and fine publicist for his likeminded musician daughter. Diz and I met in 1980 and after an unsuccessful short stint in the Scottish borders trying to start a band we both travelled to Aylesbury and joined Marillion in January 1981. We parted ways in March 1982, six months before we signed to EMI but Diz has co-writing credits on five of the songs on the first Marillion album Script for a Jesters Tear.
“I was always aware and felt bad that Diz had missed out on that elusive record deal we had been chasing, and it hadn’t sat well between us for years after, although we remained good friends. When I was asked to find a support act for a couple of the shows, I thought it could be a fine circle to bring to a close by providing Alissimons’ obvious talent with this opportunity to perform on two of the most prestigious stages on my Farewell UK tour. I’m sure she will revel in the spotlight and captivate my audience who I’m sure will appreciate her voice and songwriting on these special performances.”
Alissimon has released 3 singles with multi-platinum producer Eliot James and has been championed by BBC Introducing, being chosen as one of their ‘Ones to Watch’ and was recently featured as one of the emerging artists at UK Americana Week in January 2024. She is currently recording an EP with Liz Horsman, Joe Banfi and Tim Bidwell.
While the curtain closes on FISH’s touring this year, his iconic mark on music has been etched in the history books and his enduring legacy will be remembered and enjoyed for years to come.
