Created from the ashes of a collection of other brilliant UK bands, one of the most exciting heavy voices in the UK rock scene right now is Brighton/Bristol based band Every Hell. They are back, sharper, heavier and more ambitious than ever, and today release their incredible new single ‘Catching Thunder’.

Watch the video for ‘Catching Thunder’

Vocalist and sax player, Will Gardner, explains a bit about the tracks inception and meaning – “Catching Thunder was one of the earliest tracks that we wrote together after the Vertebrate EP. We actually tracked it last July at Middle Farm Studios with Pete [Miles] so it’s been in the works for some time, but was worth the wait as this track shows the new direction that Every Hell is taking. Lyrically the song is about staying strong and keeping self-belief in difficult times. The oxymoron of Catching Thunder itself is a bit like trying to catch air…you can’t.”

“I think the first idea we had was Andrew’s (Gosden, bass player) bass line and I had the vocal hook written for that already, and then we all jammed out the QOTSA-esque chorus riff together. The ending was a bit more contentious, and a few arguments were had around it, but that full on STOMP, dragon riding 6/8 vibe at the end just felt too good not to use. Even though it makes it a very difficult beast to play live.”

Every Hell Producer and drummer, Mark Roberts on the video shot for ‘Catching Thunder’ – “The video was shot super quick, like 30mins. We’ve long talked about making something that “breaks the 4th wall”. Sounds pretty pretentious, but the nature of shooting a performance video that everyone knows isn’t a live performance has always felt a bit trite. So rather than trying to keep with the illusion we thought it’d be fun (as well as fitting our budget and time) to just embrace the process from both sides, leaving in equipment, stuff that “should” be out of frame, even camera operators. It also worked well with this songs story, in a way a metaphor of striving for some kind of perfection and never reaching it, the incidental aspects that are “wrong” are still there…“

Live wise, you can catch the band on the road through May with Haggard Cat and Alpha Male Tea Party, at this summer Great Escape Festival, and in July they will be main support to the recently reformed Arcane Roots.

All the current, announced shows are below:
9th May – Nottingham – Rescue Rooms – with Haggard Cat

30th May – Bristol – The Louisiana – with Haggard Cat

A bit about Every Hell
At the core of Every Hell is a collective whose reach extends far beyond the band itself. Vocalist and saxophonist Will Gardner, also known for his work in Black Peaks, bridges heavy music and jazz as a well-respected figure in both scenes. Guitarist Toby Stewart is a long-standing fixture of the well-established heavier festivals, with over a decade of appearances at ArcTanGent — including opening its first-ever main stage — alongside performances at 2000trees and Bloodstock. The band’s expanded sound is completed by new member Jules Maas-Palmer on guitar and synths, whose work spans performance, production, education, studio design and underground sound-system culture. Bassist Andrew Gosden, formerly of Black Peaks, brings a rare end-to-end understanding of the industry, combining global touring experience with years spent as a trained guitar luthier and over 15 years sourcing and supplying specialist tonewoods to instrument makers worldwide. Anchoring the band is drummer Mark Roberts, a highly respected producer, engineer and mixer whose credits include Black Peaks, Jamie Lenman, Delta Sleep, Alpha Male Tea Party and The Physics House Band, alongside extensive UK and European touring.

The band have already released a collection of infectious, bright and popular singles, as well as the debut ‘Vertebrate’ EP in 2024 – an EP recorded straight to tape, entirely live and ‘in the room’. They have also toured and played shows with the likes of Knives, Vower, Sick Joy, The St Pierre Snake Invasion and Peach (who joined them on the ‘Vertebrate’ EP launch show), as well as perform at 2000trees Festival, Arctangent, Noizzefest, Castle Fest and Misery Loves Company.
