Emo/indie rock crew Inside Voices find their “Way Back to Myself”
Louisiana indie/emo quartet Inside Voices have dropped new single “Way Back To Myself”.
Taking influence from bands such as Delta Sleep, A Great Big Pile of Leaves and Glocca Morra, the latest output combines mathy riffs, introspective emo tones & deft injections of melody.
Discussing the new track, lead vocalist Tyler Jones shares: “The lyrics of this song are about a person adjusting to life after stepping away from a toxic situation. While it’s easy for others to say, “things will get better,” the reality is that you still have to process all the thoughts and emotions that arise from removing yourself from a harmful relationship or friendship.”
Jones continues: “I like to think the song serves as a reminder that it’s natural to feel grief and sadness after distancing yourself from someone who has been making your life worse. Ultimately, though, it’s the best decision you can make for yourself, regardless of the emotional weight that follows.”
Debut full-length Consecutive Normal Songs saw the light of day in 2018 and gave an early indicator as to the Northeast Louisiana crew’s intentions. A raw, emotive rookie offering with punk tendencies perforating Inside Voices’ smooth hooks.
Lockdown busting Liminal Space followed up three years later. The EP showcased a creative spark and indeed a vulnerability befitting of a collection crafted during the 21st century’s most worrisome time.
Consistent shows and short tours across the South have bolstered Inside Voices’ stock across Louisiana and the South; the band’s high energy offers the perfect foil for their intricate riffs and contemplative lyricism.
Back with their first new music in 3 years, “Way Back To Myself”, kicks off the countdown to Inside Voices’ sophomore full-length album, If It Matters, an album culminating a decade of growth.
And, while the fluidity and deft cohesion on “Way Back To Myself” shows a band utterly at ease in each other’s company, their fresh vision and newly rediscovered love of their craft makes the track feel like a vivacious debut.
