FFO: Modern Baseball, Joyce Manor Emo music to vibe to on a long drive? Leisure Hour just delivered “Ivy Tech” to your stereo! Leisure Hour is a three-piece emo indie outfit who’s stirred up attention in the midwest music scene by playing loud, looking slay, and building an intimate community around their band. Last spring with the help of their community, Leisure Hour raised over $10,000 to record their debut studio album “The Sunnyside.” In July 2022, they recorded the album with Gary Cioni at Sound Acre Studios (Hot Mulligan, Free Throw). They’re starting to release material from the sessions now, while touring small venues across the midwest/east coast. With their vulnerable storytelling, moving live performances, and larger than life ambitions, Leisure Hour is on track to one day be a heavy hitter in the alternative emo rock scene. I wrote “Ivy Tech” to cope with my brother’s death. In the summer of 2017 he was hit by a truck while riding his bike and it killed him. Flash forward to 2021, where my uncle and cousin died days apart from each other. I learned of both of the deaths by phone calls, and this all brought up horrible memories of my brothers passing. So I sat down with my guitar and the song just came out. It’s about hearing the news of a loved ones death, struggling to cope with it, and trying to accept the fact that death is the mother of beauty. – Isaiah Neal (guitars/vocals) See Leisure Hour all over the US this Summer 2023! |
