Forming in Massachusetts, USA at the dawn of the millennium, heavily influenced by Northeast Death Metal / Hardcore fusion, the name Dysentery has become synonymous with devastating, brutal death metal and skull crushing slams. Their reputation was built upon earthshaking albums like From Past Suffering Comes New Flesh (2008) and Internal Devastation (2011), but since the highly regarded and critically acclaimed Fragments in 2015 Dysentery albums have been conspicuous by their absence. However, that time of famine for Dysentery’s devoted followers is about to end, in spectacular fashion. The band have returned with a new banquet of brutality, an album that vaporises the memory of those intervening years in a moment…Dejection Chrysalis.
Opening with the instrumental ‘Transference’, a passageway to Dysentery’s world of primal forces, Dejection Chrysalis proceeds to deliver an absolute masterclass in slamming, brutal death metal. Careering speed is sucked into life-sapping swamps of mud and blood; deep grooves open up like bottomless chasms and shock attacks from breathtaking blasts strike with frenzied intensity. Inhuman vocals are complemented by some carefully curated guest appearances and every song surprises not just with its immense firepower, but with touches of class and imagination. The riffs in ‘Transposed Benevolence’ are staggering in their magnitude, the vicious assault of ‘Fratricidium’ utterly overpowering and album finale ‘Ascend The Harrowing Dream’ is Dejection Chrysalis’ crowning glory – blending bone breaking heaviness, enthralling atmosphere and excellent musicianship, it leaves you hungry for a return to the chamber of ‘Transference’.
Randy LeBoeuf at Graphic Nature Audio (Kublai Khan TX, The Acacia Strain, Vomit Forth etc) has given Dejection Chrysalis the perfect sound for its overwhelming assault, combining thick, bloody textures with vicious, cracking impact. Adorned in the intriguing artwork of Hidris (Anhedonic, Reign Of Erebus, Snakepit etc), Dejection Chrysalis will be hatched by Comatose Music on November 7th. Dysentery are back and the world is about to be slammed.
