Quebec City’s punk-rock quintet Downstater return with new track ‘Cage Fight’; a high-energy punk anthem channelling 90’s skate-punk spirit, alongside a music video ahead of their European tour.

“‘Cage Fight’ is a fired-up punk rock anthem that pays homage to the genre of legends we grew up with like The Offspring, Rise Against, and Ignite. We really wanted to capture the raw energy of the 90’s skate punk that fuelled our youth. This song is an ode to the misfits, the rebels, and anyone who’s ever felt trapped and yearning to break free. It’s a sonic embodiment of everything punk rock means to us: fast, melodic, unapologetic, and angry,” says the band. “So grab your skateboard, pump up the volume, and enjoy the ride!” they add.

The energetic yet emotionally charged track sets the tone for the band’s next chapter and upcoming releases, reaffirming their ambition to carry punk’s legacy forward.

Downstater are a punk rock quintet from Quebec City, deeply influenced by legends of the genre such as Rise Against, No Use For A Name, The Offspring, and Yellowcard. With raw energy and overflowing passion, the band seek to revive the flame of 90’s punk rock. The group is led by singer and guitarist Jean-Philippe Lagacé, a veteran of the metal scene who made his mark on the international stage for 16 years with his former band Get The Shot.

In 2023, Downstater made their debut with their first album ‘Cruelest Defeats’ under the People of Punk Rock label, a release that sparked significant interest and notable exposure in the punk rock scene. With songs that tackle nostalgia, anger, and resentment, the band offer energetic and moving music that reflects its desire to give meaning to pain and the struggles of existence.

Since its release, the band have toured extensively throughout Canada, playing venues and festivals across the country. Downstater have had the opportunity to share the stage with other prominent punk bands such as Lagwagon, Face To Face, and Goldfinger, and have participated in several major festivals, including the Festival Au Lac, Red Bridge Fest, and Music 4 Cancer. These experiences have allowed the band to gain recognition and develop a loyal fan base.

The band are currently finalizing the recording of their second album and will embark on a European tour next week (as below).
