downcast Announce New Single
“Nothing Left To Give”
Featuring Jessie From Dream State

New EP “Nothing Left To Give” Announced
Release Date November 27th

Bristol natives downcast are coming your way with two huge announcements. First up, they’ve enlisted the services of Dream State’s excellent Jessie Powell to join them on their brand new single Nothing Left To Give.

Nothing Left To Give features some of the darkest lyrics downcast have written so far. Wrapped in their ever evolving sound – their usual “British take on Midwestern emo” this time hitting something close to nu metal in places – Nothing Left To Give is designed to hit listeners firmly “in the feels”. Then Jessie’s vocals kick in to take things up another level, with the end result being among the best work of downcast’s existence as a band.

You can check out the video for Nothing Left To Give (which also features Jessie), below:

To tell us more about their new single, here is downcast frontman Liam Edwards:

“This song is about how the constant struggles of life have, at times, left me feeling unrecognisable to myself. I find that the modern expectations of us as humans can often feel comparable to selling your soul. Life moves so fast that you rarely get a chance to pause and reflect, but during the times that I’ve been able to do so, I’ve often found myself asking “What am I even doing it for?” The lyrics explore the mental spaces that my brain has taken me when I’ve been feeling low. Often during these moments, even places that once feltlike home and brought me comfort have left me feeling like I don’t belong.
The second half of downcast’s announcement is the news of a brand new EP, of which their new single is the title track. Nothing Left To Give (the EP) will be released on November 27th 2025, and includes their new single, another new original track called “home” (which features Sammy from WSTR) and their two recent covers: Backstreet Boys Just Want You To Know, and My Chemical Romance’s I Don’t Love You.

downcast kicked off this new chapter of the band by paying emo homage to one of the best loved boybands of all time. They temporarily packed away the flannel shirts and Vans and embraced all things light and fluffy with their take on Backstreet Boys’ Just Want You To Know.

A band who do everything with maximum effort and enthusiasm, downcast went all in with the music video for their version of Just Want You To Know. Nods to the original video are interspersed with other BSB moments including those iconic white outfits.

About downcast

After carving an impressive reputation for themselves in their local scene, Bristol natives and alt-rock/emo specialists downcast released their debut album “i saw hell when i was with you” in 2022 to huge critical and fan acclaim. Featuring the singles “catharsis“, “a weight that i can’t stand“, “mistakes that i have made” and “i want to love again“, the album was forged from a collection of the life experiences of the band, particularly frontman Liam Edwards. Produced by Ian Sadler (Cold Bones, Delaire The Liar) “i saw hell when i was with you” took downcast all around the UK, winning them new fans wherever they went. The album and singles also won them backing from Kerrang, Rock Sound, Punktastic, State Of The Scene, Spotify and YouTube official editorial playlists, to name just a few.

2024 saw downcast blast back to life with a vengeance. Beginning with their single “bittersweet“, the release of their 90’s retro nostalgia themed WTF HAPPENED EP was a highlight of the UK emo/alt-rock scene, topped off with the other excellent singles raincheck and your absence.

After a period of writing, downcast returned in September 2025, embracing their fun side to the maximum with their unique take on the Backstreet Boys’ Just Want You To Know. Having now announced their brand new EP Nothing Left To Give with the title track, the rest of the year is set for more music. Plans for more live shows are in the works, and you are going to want to hear these new songs (as well as the old favourites) in the flesh when the time comes!
