DMA’S have ignited their latest era of music with new single My Baby’s Place, a reflective, nostalgic, vulnerable track that feels instantly familiar and comes with an accompany video that draws out a unifying feeling of youthful longing.
“My Baby’s Place began with the verses, written around a back and forth between gratitude and destitution,” Matt Mason from DMA’S reflects. “I finished the choruses last year at a time when a few chapters were closing and it all clicked, so it felt tight to record it ourselves in our studio in Sydney.”
With its reminiscent sound, My Baby’s Place is a gorgeous reminder of the anthemic, hooky singalong songs the trio are famous for, and is highlighted by the band entirely self-producing this new evolution of their music. The new track is particularly apt in a year that marks the 10th anniversary of their seismic debut album Hills End.
The release sees the band further build on their incredible history that has seen them deliver four critically albums – Hills End in 2016; For Now in 2018; THE GLOW in 2020 and How Many Dreams in 2023 – each landing towards the top end of the ARIA chart in their homeland Australia, with the last two albums, THE GLOW and How Many Dreams, reaching #4 and #3 respectively in the UK album chart.
The band has accrued over 500 million streams across their catalogue, four multi-platinum singles, multiple ARIA Award nominations – including a win for Best Group in 2023 – and 13 songs in Triple J’s coveted Hottest 100, highlighted by their Like A Version cover of Cher’s Believe, which topped the Hottest 100 Like A Versions of All Time in 2023.
