The king of rock n roll Richard Penniman more known by his stage name Little Richard were born in Macon Georgia. His massive legacy in the history of rock n roll is undeniable and the legend lives on from generation to generation. When Sulo came up with the idea of making a whole album to honor Little Richard his Diamond Dogs jumped on the bandwagon immediately.

It was when legendary UK guitarist Chris Spedding (Bryan Ferry, Elton John, Sex Pistols etc) called him up and wondered if they should do something together when he was over in Sweden it all started.

A few weeks later they met up in the studio after Sulo handpicked a couple of his Little Richard favorites. Ten hours!?! later with no rehearsal whatsoever the album was nailed.

Eleven songs of furious rhythm and blues, howling rock n roll and honey dripping soul screamers played with great love and respect for the architect of extravagant flamboyant dandy entertainment.

Sulo named the album “Macon Georgia Giant” and the response from the music press has since then been overwhelming. What neither Diamond Dogs or Chris Spedding knew at the time was that they‘ve just recorded the first ever full album homage to King Richard.

That has now resulted in a very exclusive invitation from the actual city Macon in Georgia.

On March 28th Diamond Dogs will do a full Little Richard show at The Health Amfitheater during The Cherry Blossom festival.

Besides that the band will also cut some new tracks at the legendary Capricorn Studio where stars like Allman Brothers did their first albums.

“It‘s an unbelievable opportunity to actually play the songs in his hometown and in some poetic way end the circle. Without him there wouldn‘t had been any rock roll and without that wouldn‘t rock n roll it would‘ve been a full planet” says Sulo about the unexpected invitation.

The money from the gig is a benefit to Macon‘s other great icon the soul master Otis Redding.

“It‘s beautiful to see how music still keeps building bridges between different ages and makes people from all kinds of backgrounds come together. Rock n roll will always be an universal language that stands the test of time and this adventure to Macon Georgia is just another proof of that” says Sulo.
