Metal-core band Designer Disguise are unveiling their version of “Clarity,” originally performed by Zedd featuring Foxes, on September 1 via InVogue Records. The track is the follow-up release to the band’s fiery interpretation of iconic early 2000’s songs “Sexy And I Know It” and “Move Bitch” and part of the upcoming compilation WOW That’s What I Call Metacore, Vol. 1. |
Designer Disguise puts a graceful yet ferocious spin on the 2012 hit “Clarity.” Melodies trickle in and shine a light on the raw emotion that this track brings out. The band showcases worlds of peak pop-culture references, featuring One Direction, SuperHero movies and bits of the original “Clarity” music video. Designer Disguise displays their creativity on a grainy T.V. honing in on a wistful element. The band leans into their more elegant side with a hint of an edge making for an ear pleasing contrast. Designer Disguise have previously released a viral cover, their rendition of “Get Low” has accumulated nearly 2 million streams stemming from TikTok viral videos and user generated content. Proving that the band and their unique spin is built to last. As they continue to build and activate their ultra rabid fanbase at a feverish pace, they are constantly begging for hints and clues as to what song the band will reinvent next! |
“”As an emo kid turned raver I remember being in the crowd at the Gorge Amphitheater hearing Zedd’s Clarity play and screaming every word along with my group. At the time I remember thinking that this song was like the ultimate synergy of emo vibes and pop dance music. To this day whenever I hear this song I get into my feels and can’t help but singing along to it. I felt that Clarity should have a place in alt music and that’s why we ended up selecting it as one of the tracks for Wow That’s What I Call Metalcore Vol. 1. We had a lot of fun with many of the tracks on this record, but this one was more serious and more near and dear to our hearts. I recently showed this track privately to my group of old raver friends in my car and all of them couldn’t help but scream along to the chorus. I think this song is anthemic in all settings, but it felt right to bring it back to my emo, posthardcore, metalcore roots. I think this song is a perfect song to cry in the pit to with its atmospheric verses and riff driven chorus. I hope that others like me, who grew up being emo and then also got into the rave scene, will hold this version in a special place within their hearts as I do.” Says lead vocalist, Jackson Bengtsson. |
This single is the third release since the band’s covers of “Sexy And I Know It” and “Move Bitch” which follows behind the band’s LP, Elswaer. The record threads together 10 tracks that mold a spacious story. The record introduces itself in a massive way, with bold soundscapes that deliver a cosmic environment. Designer Disguise highlights their capability to create unique music while keeping a sense of familiarity alive. “This album is the story about finding hope when there feels like there is none. It is a classic hero’s journey in which our main character Kai is swept away from his planet Elswaer and taken on an adventure. He joins The Nova Children on their quest to find The Flame and defeat the evil New Order. This album inspects how it feels to fight for good and light when all feels it is in darkness.” Says The band regarding the new record. “The songs are an introspection into the universe we’ve created, but even more so it is an illustration of our feelings living in our own dark world. In many ways this album is in response to the government, covid, and many other tumultuous world events. This is how we coped during this difficult time. We decided to tell a story. Welcome to Elswaer.’” |

About Designer Disguise: Designer Disguise is a band on the frontlines of genre bending. Starting out in 2015 as a metalcore group, the band has evolved over the years combining aspects of pop, hip-hop, and metalcore. The music the group creates today draws influence from groups like Linkin Park, Bring Me the Horizon, Twenty One Pilots, Issues, Post Malone, Chon, Dropout Kings, and more. The wide range of influence is apparent in the groups’ songwriting, production, and performance. The Nowhere EP (2020) illustrates the diversity of musical styles that DD brings to the table. They dropped the EP No One’s Alright in 2021. The group values vulnerability and believes that by sharing our stories we can become strong together. The songs written by Designer Disguise are the real manifestation of that value; hoping that by sharing their own stories and being vulnerable they can inspire others to do the same. “Every Day is a New Nightmare, But It All Feels The Same” is one of the leading singles to their 2023 concept album titled Elswaer. The band has played shows alongside Sleep Signals and Osatia and plan on touring the west coast in support of the release of Elswaer.
