East London upstart Deijuvhs today (Friday 10th Jan) kicks off 2025 with the announcement of his much-anticipated new mixtape Cemetery Scum, slated for release on 2nd May via 23 Recordings/Atlantic. His most cohesive output to date, Dejivuhs shapes the mood for the 10 blistering tracks as “Night time as a hoodpunk”. His first project since 2022’s Perpetual States of Boredom, the new mixtape is a lightning rod for the movement that’s swirling around Deijuvhs.
The announcement arrives today with new single ‘Comatose’, a high-octane explosion of searing guitars, electrifying percussion, and Deijuvhs’s raw, electrifying vocals that shift from hauntingly somber to gut-wrenching screams. It’s a fierce, adrenaline-charged anthem, capturing the chaotic tug-of-war between desire and destruction as he confronts the torment of his relationship with alcohol.
Speaking on the inspiration behind ‘Comatose’, Deijuvhs said –
“Comatose is a song about my love-hate relationship with alcohol. I tried to romanticise the toxicity.”
‘Comatose’ will be joined on the tape by the sexy, vampiric recent single ‘LOTUS’; a nu-metal song infused with trap swagger and drum and bass licks and the eerie sonics of ‘Black Metal’, an imagining of Afroswing collective NSG making an emo song. Deijuvhs has a fuck-it, can-do attitude that is magnetic — and one that unfurls in a rough and tumble tangle of wires, white noise, sweat, and spit at his live shows from underground sweatboxes through to the likes of the Festival Republic stage at Reading & Leeds Festival last summer.
An MC, singer, bandleader, scene leader — perhaps most of all, ringleader — Deijuvhs is at the forefront of a raging new underground movement of punks, rappers, nerds, and ravers getting its kicks from kicking out at the world. Having cut his teeth churning up moshpits at DIY festivals, and honing his songwriting chops through frenzied studio sessions, there’s a whirlwind now forming around Deijuvhs. The artist is at the helm of underground festival Lamesfest and music festival-cum-youth fundraising drive Hoodstock, continuing to use his platform to spotlight emerging underground talent.
The East-London talent picks from a post-internet grab bag of unmoored musical influences. Over a series of explosive releases, his catalogue leaps from grunge to sweetboi dancehall to hair metal solos. Straddling the worlds of both music and fashion, Deijuvhs has appeared in campaigns for Versace and Doc Martens, been shot for DAZED, i-D and Hunger Magazine and amassed a cult following of music industry tastemakers from Danny Brown and Jamz Supernova to The Prodigy and Skrillex.
23 Recordings is a new label imprint in partnership with ADA & Atlantic Records, focusing on championing and releasing music in the alternative lane outside of the generic structures of typical label deals.
