20 years ago, Rapture of the Deep was recorded in just five weeks and without a label. Deep Purple’s 18th studio album has always been considered something of an insider’s gem, yet it often remained in the shadow of the band’s biggest classics. In hindsight, however, it marked a turning point: from this uncertain moment grew the creative force that would later lead to four consecutive No. 1 albums (2013, 2017, 2020, 2024). Today, the album is rediscovered: remixed and remastered under the personal supervision of Roger Glover, analogue-mastered at Hamburg’s renowned Chameleon Studios, and presented with striking new artwork. “It’s a new album now to me,” says Glover. The anniversary edition also includes a bonus CD/LP with previously unreleased studio sessions from 2005 – rare recordings that document the songwriting and rehearsal process. Among the highlights is the never-before-heard instrumental “Closing Note” by Steve Morse, available exclusively on CD and vinyl.
