As we hit the final 3 bands of the night, it’s time for some Black Metal with Dark Funeral. As the band come out in full makeup and costume, it seems they live up to their name. As Heljarmadr comes out he encourages the crowd and they seem ready to witness the intensity of the show on stage. As the band’s new vocalist and frontman, he does an excellent job of carrying the torch and nailing the songs. Lord Ahriman continues to show why the band have lasted all these years as he performs each riff with control and precision. Although this kind of metal does tend to work better in a dark club, on the huge stage they still hold their own and keep that imposing image going strong. As the final band of this genre for the weekend, Dark Funeral are perfect to show why this kind of music stands the test of time and their shows are always worth checking out. Tonight, they have absolutely killed their performance.
1993 was the year it all began, Lord Ahriman and Blackmoon [1993-1996] founded the infernal war machine we now know as Dark Funeral, one of the most intense Black Metal acts ever! The band quickly established themselves as a band to watch. Since then, a lot of things have happened. The line-up has changed, several amazing albums have been released and Dark Funeral has toured no less than 45 different countries with acts such as Dimmu Borgir, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Immortal and many more. Lord Ahriman continues to wave the flag of Swedish Black Metal with the Dark Funeral crusade. Where many would have, and do fail, Ahriman and Dark Funeral continue to prevail. Now, a new aeon has begun with the release of DARK FUNERAL’s sixth studio album, “Where Shadows Forever Reign”, which not only visually refers back to their first offering due to its stunning artwork by Necrolord (Dissection, Emperor), but also marks a debut of sorts: The first DARK FUNERAL album with new vocalist Heljarmadr. His vitriolic snarl finds a perfect match in Lord Ahriman’s trademark riffing, and the album was awarded twice, by Swedish P3 Guld & German Metal Hammer Award.
