Following last month’s announcement of the deluxe edition of their hit record Scatterbrains and the release of its first additional track, “Rosie’s Friend”, today Daily J return once more with their uplifting new single “Hopetown”, ahead of the deluxe record’s arrival on December 5th.

Blending dreamy indie-pop textures with warm pop melodies, “Hopetown” offers a lush, escapist soundscape perfect for winding down or getting lost in thought. With shimmering guitars, smooth vocals, and a relaxed groove, the track captures the feeling of searching for peace in a chaotic world. A soulful, feel-good moment that invites listeners to find their own version of paradise. An ode to Auckland’s nightlife, “Hopetown” encapsulates the group’s sun-soaked optimism and effortless melodic touch.

Vocalist Jayden Paul says: “Hopetown was a special spot for us off K Road.”

Since the original release of Scatterbrains, the Auckland via Melbourne outfit have continued to expand their sonic palette and global reach. Relocating across the Tasman, the band have channelled the heat and vibrancy of the southern hemisphere’s summer into their new material, keeping up their penchant for euphoric, major-key indie-pop bangers. “Hopetown” is no exception, complete with uplifting lyrics, irresistible hooks, and even a tasteful 80’s pop-inspired saxophone solo.

Following a sold-out UK debut tour last year, including dates in Bristol, London, and Manchester, as well as a packed-out tent at All Points East, Daily J continue to solidify their place as one of the most exciting indie acts to emerge from New Zealand.

Their second studio album Scatterbrainsoriginally released in February this year, marked a new direction for the band while still carrying those classic Daily J summer undertones. Scatterbrains explores the darker side of their moon, diving into a mix of moods and emotions. The title Scatterbrains, as the band expand, “reflects that contrast, with songs that range from happy to sad, inquisitive to outright mad. It’s a rollercoaster of feeling, and we hope it resonates with our listeners in a real and relatable way.” A deluxe version of the album is set for release on the 5th of December, featuring new singles “Rosie’s Friend” and “Hopetown” and one further unreleased track.

Consisting of brothers Jayden, Jonny and Jesse Paul alongside musical soulmate Rick, the band has a hard-earned reputation as one of New Zealand music’s most successful exports, amassing tens of millions of streams and selling out tours across Australia and the UK. Through all of life’s chaos, their music offers something rare: a sense of calm, empathy, and escape. Whether in sunshine or rain, Daily J reminds us we’re never truly alone.
