CLUTCH ANNOUNCE THE NEXT CHAPTER IN THEIR COLLECTOR’S SERIES: THE LANDMARK SELF-TITLED ALBUM CLUTCH, OUT TODAY

Master craftsmen of groove rock, CLUTCH have been honing their unmistakable sound since they first formed in 1991. It was their second record, the eponymous Clutch, released in May 1995 via Atlantic Records, that saw the band truly stretch their wings — blending thick stoner riffs, swampy blues, and unexpected funk flavours into a sound that would define them for decades to come.

Now, as the album celebrates its 30th anniversary, fans will have the chance to own it on vinyl as part of the Clutch Collector’s Series, arriving today, July 18th, via Weathermaker. This deluxe, remastered edition arrives as a 2LP with a striking Side D etching, brand new artwork that nods to the original but reimagined in vivid detail, and a numbered artist-signed insert — a true collector’s piece limited in quantity, just like previous Clutch Collector’s Series favourites Blast Tyrant, Robot Hive/Exodus, and Transnational Speedway League.

Each track on Clutch stands proudly on its own; no two songs sound alike, making the listening experience a wild, groove-laden journey from start to finish. From the cosmic ride of “Spacegrass” to the unrelenting drive of “Escape From The Prison Planet,” it’s no wonder this record enjoys cult status and remains beloved by fans worldwide.

Tracklisting:

  1. Big News I
  2. Big News II
  3. Rock N Roll Outlaw

Guitarist Tim Sult, who curated the package, reflects, “Revisiting this album was like opening a time capsule from 1995. We wanted to capture that same raw, experimental spirit but present it with a fresh visual twist for longtime fans and new listeners alike.”

But that’s not all — CLUTCH will soon be getting up close and personal with fans, with a full calendar of live dates planned across North America and Europe this year.

The band’s setlist will consist of songs spanning their 34-year career and will change from night to night. This means that fans who attend multiple concerts will be treated to a different setlist with each show they attend. Also included in the setlists will be new material yet to be recorded.

Drummer Jean-Paul Gaster explains, “Rotating the setlist is a great way to make each show a special and unique experience. We enjoy the challenge of seeing how many different songs we can play over the course of a tour. My favorite part is being able to try out new songs on stage before we actually record them. These new songs evolve each time we perform them. The energy of the crowd lets us know if we are on the right path as we work through the new ideas.”

ABOUT CLUTCH

Clutch shares more in common with The Grateful Dead, Rush, and the Allman Brothers than their heavy riffs and heady twists-of-phrase might suggest. Because like those bands, the supporters who adore Clutch are there for the experience, community, and authentic connection. To love Clutch is to feel a sense of ownership, membership, and belonging.

Seneca Valley High School classmates Neil Fallon (vocals), Tim Sult (guitar), Dan Maines (bass), and Jean-Paul Gaster (drums) share an unshakeable musical and personal bond now three decades strong. Shaped by the same region which birthed Bad Brains, Minor Threat, and Rites Of Spring, Clutch crafts hyper-literate and libertine jams informed by hardcore fury and fuzzy, athletic, stoner rock.

“There’s no question that Clutch etched themselves a name in the pantheon of great rock bands,” Lambgoat wrote in 2004. Classic Rock counted 2013’s Earth Rocker and 2015’s Psychic Warfare among the 50 Best Rock Albums of the 2010s. Rolling Stone described 2018’s Book of Bad Decisions as “bathed in the grit and liberal fuzz tone that have made their live shows legendary.” The global accolades across their acclaimed catalogue are numerous.

Live shows over the years include tours with Slayer and System Of A Down and more recent co-headlining treks with Dropkick Murphys, Killswitch Engage, and Mastodon. Like Slayer or Iron Maiden, Clutch outlasted rock bands anchored to “hit songs” and the pressure of replicating them. The foursome from Germantown, Maryland, isn’t bound by trends. Across thirteen studio albums and assorted releases since 1991, they’ve earned a reputation as one of the best around.

Clutch are: Neil Fallon – Vocals, Tim Sult – Guitar, Dan Maines – Bass, and Jean-Paul Gaster – Drums.
