“It’s fast and ugly and ignorant and deeply satisfying.” – Stereogum “Their frontman has the voice of a human tornado, a distinctly raspy register that sounds like it could yank a house out of its foundation and into his orbit.” – Revolver “It’s an album fueled by rage and pain… You know sincerity when you hear it and A World of Our Own has it in spades.” – BrooklynVegan “The lyrics and themes only add to the overall impact of the record, arguably turning an already great album into a genuinely essential one that offers further proof that KHARMA are one of the best in the scene at the moment.” – Distorted Sound
Chicago hardcore band Kharma has been a staple of their scene since 2015, pummeling audiences with their indomitable brand of metallic hardcore. Today, the band cements their legacy amongst the greats of their city with their new album A World Of Our Own, out now via Flatspot Records. Working with Jon Markson at The Animal Farm (Regulate, Jivebomb), Kharma set out to record their most ambitious album yet, calling on their diverse influences and deep relationship with the Chicago scene to stack their new album with ten songs that showcase their explosive growth throughout the years. The band gave the first glimpse into their world on 2016’s self-released LP, Survival, followed up by 2018’s Moment of Violence, leading to their 2020 EP, Most Dangerous Game, out through Flatspot Records. On each release, Kharma has delivered uncompromising, reality-driven hardcore that is perfected throughout the 10 songs that comprise A World Of Our Own. Packed with crushing riffs, blazing fast drumming and furious vocals, each song on the album serves as a vehicle for vocalist Jordan Moten’s cathartic lyrics. From high pitched screams to menacing gang vocals, Moten uses his vocals as a means to an end – bringing listeners into a world that is equal parts anguished and angry. Moten expands on the meaning of the album: “The overall theme of this record sort of stems from the title track. In every song I dive into a lot of issues whether it be personal or issues with the world at large. The title track is a love letter to Chicago Hardcore but more broadly to hardcore itself. The ‘real world’ is full of so much pain and hate that we can’t control but within the hardcore community we can. We can use this outlet to improve ourselves, each other, and eventually the world around us. So that’s where ‘A World Of Our Own’ came from. The idea that hardcore is a little world that we can escape to while building ourselves up to live in a world where we can thrive even through the struggles of everyday real life.” With a no-frills attitude and fervent live performances, Kharma is eager to share these 10 new songs in a live setting. Having toured across the US and Europe, Kharma has been able to share the stage with Knocked Loose, Speed, Zulu, Bulldoze, and Terror to name a few. Kharma will continue to be the harbingers of Chicago hardcore in 2024, representing the sound of their scene to audiences across the world. A World Of Our Own is available now through Flatspot Records. Kharma is Jordan Moten – Vocals, Andrew Perez – Guitar, Brian Pilla – Guitar, and Bryce Tollner – Drums.
