CELL GAMES REIMAGINE THEIR DEBUT SINGLE “LAMENT CONFIGURATION”

CELL GAMES REIMAGINE THEIR DEBUT SINGLE “LAMENT CONFIGURATION” AHEAD OF DECEMBER EP RELEASE – OUT 23rd October 2025!
One of the most exciting names in the Irish metal scene, CELL GAMES, have announced the re-release of their debut single “Lament Configuration”, a reimagined version that captures the full power and chemistry of the band as it exists today.
Originally conceived in 2020 as a remote recording project by guitarist Tristan Carroll and vocalist Maximillion Foy, CELL GAMES have evolved into a commanding live act since taking to the stage in 2022. Rounded out by Niall O’Carroll on drums and Deb Finn-O’Brien on bass, the four-piece have carved out a distinct sound—bridging the raw aggression of classic nu metal with a bold, contemporary edge.
Drawing inspiration from genre heavyweights such as Static-X, Sevendust, White Zombie, System Of A Down, and KoRn, CELL GAMES deliver an intense and groove-driven sound that combines ferocious musicianship, infectious hooks, and undeniable stage chemistry.
Their first single, “Lament Configuration,” was released in 2021 at the height of the pandemic—when CELL GAMES was still just Carroll and Foy recording their parts separately, 60 kilometers apart. The drums were fully programmed, and the band had never performed the track together before releasing it to the world.

“The song has been in the set at every gig for four years,” says guitarist Tristan Carroll, “and it’s taken on a completely different vibe with Deb and Niall adding their playing to it. We wanted to show what the song that started this band actually sounds like now.”

The re-recorded “Lament Configuration” was produced in collaboration with JSR Audio, marking a significant leap in the band’s sonic evolution. It also serves as the foundation for the group’s upcoming EP, due December 2025, which will reimagine the early material that defined Cell Games’ beginnings.

“That’s the guiding principle for the EP,” adds Carroll. “The songs that started the band, updated to sound like the band as it exists today. Sort of like what Kittie are doing—just after four years instead of twenty-five.”
Musically, “Lament Configuration” is pure nu-metal energy—melding filtered guitars over a grinding verse groove with a massive, bouncing chorus riff that could sit comfortably on Significant Other. The song’s title is drawn directly from Hellraiser, a recurring visual motif in the band’s aesthetic, reflected in both its artwork by Jade Costello (Tristan’s partner and the band’s social media lead) and its original DIY video.
Vocalist Maximillion Foy explains the song’s deeper meaning:
“Lament Configuration was the first in a trio of songs—along with Relics and Ego Sum Papa—that explore my thoughts on the rise of the far right and the erosion of empathy. It was meant to be a cautionary tale when I wrote it before Covid, but it’s turned out to be disturbingly prophetic. It’s about that sense that things are changing for the worse, summed up by its opening line, ‘the nihilist in me smells dying on its way.’ As a horror fan, I wanted to channel that dread through a Hellraiser lens—it’s like we’ve solved the puzzle box, and the chains have dragged us to hell.”
With their mix of visceral performance, dark cinematic storytelling, and unapologetic groove, CELL GAMES are proving that nu metal is not only alive—but evolving.
