Cell Games Announce Debut EP You Have (Not) Heard These Songs Before
Dublin alt-rock band Cell Games are set to release their debut EP, You Have (Not) Heard These Songs Before, recorded and produced by Josh Sid Robinson (JSR Audio) in Belfast. The EP, which is set for release on the 12th December 2025, re-imagines songs that first took shape when Cell Games was just Maximillion (vocals) and Tristan (guitar and programming), working remotely during the pandemic. Now, with the full lineup, these tracks have been rebuilt to reflect the band’s powerful live sound and evolving identity.
“The whole idea was to take the songs from when Cell Games was just two people on opposite sides of a screen and make them sound like us now,” says vocalist Maximillion Foy.
Among the four tracks, “Relics” stands out as a fan favourite — originally the band’s second single and a mainstay closer in their live sets. The re-recorded version dives deeper into electronic textures, with Josh Sid Robinson’s production pushing the vocal layering and synth work to new heights. The track draws lyrical inspiration from Neon Genesis Evangelion, referencing the Spear of Longinus and the apocalyptic phrase “brace for impact” that opens its climactic outro.
“Filthyweight”, previously only available as a live studio session, finally receives its proper studio treatment. The song uses Maximillion’s fear of Alien’s facehuggers as an analogy for depression, while the title — born from a misheard in-joke between “filthy riff” and “weight class” — captures both the heaviness and the humor that define Cell Games’ writing style.
The EP also includes a reimagined version of “Lament Configuration”, the band’s first single, and the only brand-new track, “Let’s Go To Therapy” — a cathartic anthem marking the start of a new chapter for Cell Games.
The title You Have (Not) Heard These Songs Before is a playful nod to Neon Genesis Evangelion episode and film titles such as You Are (Not) Alone. For Cell Games, it represents both a revisiting and a transformation — familiar songs presented in unfamiliar form, alongside something entirely new.
The artwork, designed by Jade Costello, channels the iconic visual style of Evangelion’s title cards, tying together the band’s blend of emotional intensity, thematic depth, and self-aware humor.
