Formed in 2018 amongst college friends, Chico has evolved in sound over the years from laid back California cool to a sweltering mix of alternative rock, punk, and hardcore. Signing to New Morality Zine, today the band release the punchy new single “Too Late.” Blistering guitars and drums land alongside a dynamic vocal display, exchanging from hard-hitting to bluesy. Clocking in at just under two minutes, “Too Late” showcases Chico’s ability to write fast, genre blending songs meant to get you going. The accompanying video, directed by drummer Tony Rangel, gives a major nostalgic feel as VHS performance of the band turns into a head trip.

You can watch the video for “Too Late” HERE and stream the track HERE.

Rangel shares on the song’s lyrics:

“I wrote this song when I was extremely broke and depressed about it. It’s about the way I envy people who are able to just live a simple life. It’s a pretty self explanatory song, but I guess one of the underlying themes is it feels like the system over us is designed for us to not look past what’s in front of us. Go to work, distract yourself until the next thing, and do that everyday – where the lyric ‘throw away my brain’ comes from. ‘Thrown away everyday,’ everyday we say no to what we want in order to make enough money to barely make rent. But that’s just what we were born into so we deal with it until one day we maybe don’t have to.”

Starting May 7th, Chico will head out on a short west coast run with support from Dreamcast and Free Concern. On September 25th the band will join Death Lens on tour through Texas and California. Full dates below.

Chico is Lance Gibson – vocals, Tony Rangel – drums, Danny Chavez – guitar, Jake Palma – guitar, and Dawson Souisa – bass.
