Bloodstock Open Air 2024 // Ronnie James DIo Stage // Friday 9th August // Part 1

It’s a bright sunny morning here at Bloodstock and opening the Ronnie James Dio, main stage the progressive metal band Desert Storm. The arena in front of the stage is already busy, and fans are eager to see these guys perform. Watching this performance, you wouldn’t believe that it’s so early in the morning as they put their all into providing a killer show. The steady beats and gruff growling vocals are a perfect accompaniment to the crushing riffs. Mixed into this is also enchanting solos and driving rhythms that make this band a force to be reckoned with. Pairing their musical style with a captivating performance it’s a hell of a way to get this stage started and us warmed up for the rest of the day and weekend.

Taking us through to midday, female Thrash Metallers Nervosa take over the main stage. Hailed by many as an important reference in the Metal scene, it’s easy to see why as they grab the attention of anyone nearby when they take to the main stage. From the growling vocals to the technical solos not only are this band incredibly talented but they are entertaining to watch as they fully interact with one another and the crowd while playing. Very quickly a circle pit has already opened and it’s clear that the weekend is getting into the swing of things. Whether Thrash is your bag or not, Nervosa has a unique style that quickly captures your attention, and its performance makes you unable to look away.
Up next are the highly anticipated Green Lung with their psychedelic Doom metal. With the stage adorned and ready to go, there is a huge crowd gathered to catch these guys well before they are scheduled to play. This is one of the bands of the day that no one wants to miss and it’s clear to see why within minutes of their performance. From the wailing guitars to the slow rhythmic beats and the dark occult-ridden lyrics, these guys have taken those early Black Sabbath influences and given them their own modern twist. This is a band who have found their own niche of music that appeals to so many rock and metal lovers as they incorporate everything from classic guitar solos to symphonic keyboards to catchy choruses. Up on the stage, it’s evident that this is a band made for live performances as they end the mornings musical offerings strong.
