I’ve been a big fan of Ricky Warwick since the 90’s when I saw The Almighty in their early days, so when I got the call to say that Black Star Riders were doing a small acoustic gig in my local Venue The Parish in Huddersfield I was over the moon.
Having done a few gigs at The Parish so I went straight into the hall to get set up and speak to the lighting tech. Then I noticed that it was going to be a seated gig which is not what I was expecting.
Showtime and Ricky came on stage joined by Sam Wood from Wayward Sons which was a nice surprise.
The atmosphere turned electric as soon as they started playing and the sound was amazing. Ricky’s vocals haven’t changed in the 35 years he has been performing and really gets the crowd going.
Banging out the first few songs from the new album and then slotted in Free n’ Easy from The Almighty days, this got the whole crowd singing.
Interacting with the crowd throughout the set with stories and anecdotes Ricky made the gig feel very personal as well.
Just a 45 min set but lots packed in and to top the night off Ricky and Sam walked into the crowd to do signings and just talk to people.
I was really looking forward to this one and it didn’t disappoint. Thanks Ricky and Sam
