Black Dog Moon are a five-piece blues-infused rock band from Ireland, known for their powerful performances and unique sound. Formed in 2020, the band quickly made a name for itself in the local music scene.
They have already been played on BBC Radio ‘Precious Metal’ show and secured features in several publications including Rock N’ Load Magazine, Soundcheck, Bamni and The Beat Ireland.

The band released the first single taken from their forthcoming new album ‘Hell and Back’ single ‘Neon Queen’ on 16th September 2025 and the track quickly built momentum with extensive global radio airplay including WDNF Philly (North America), NI Rocks (Northern Ireland), Homemade Radio (United Kingdom), The Indie Scene With DJ Rob (North America), Rock Rage Radio (North America), Banks Radio Australia (Australia), Emerging Rock Bands (United Kingdom), Dundalk FM (Ireland), KTCR FM (United Kingdom), Forest FM (United Kingdom and much more.
Black Dog Moon are now inviting people to journey with them with their new album ‘Hell And Back’ which is now due for release on Friday 28th November 2025 just in time for the band’s Planet Rockstock 2025 live appearance on Saturday 29th November 2025.
Speaking about the new album, Conal Montgomery explained: “I am excited for this release, it shows our love and diversity of all types of rock and blues. I think we have come a long way in a short space of time. Our reward is Planet Rockstock, hopefully we can make an impression and find the right contacts to bring the band to the next level. Our goal is to make the scene and have some good support slots and hopefully a tour of UK and Ireland in the not-too-distant future. I hope this record helps someone, lots of emotion in there, happy, sad fun and tragedy but a drive to never give up.”
The album was produced by Steve Fearnley at Narrow Water Studio in Warrenpoint and is the band’s second album. It once again shows the band’s diversity which their first album Black Dog Moon had in abundance. Conal says – “Steve just gets us and we see him as part of us, a very talented and beautiful human being”.
The new album ‘Hell And Back’ will be available on Friday 28th November 2025 on Bandcamp here: https://conalmontgomery.bandcamp.com/
It will also be available online across various platforms including Spotify and Apple Music on the same day.

‘Hell and Back’ Track By Track:
1 – First up we have the bluesy The Prophecy which predicts the end of the world as we know it on 13th June at 20.25.
2 – Neon Queen was written by guitarist Daniel Martin and is a nod to a lady he frequented in Amsterdam.
3 – The Ghostly Scots Pine Tree was written by Conal and tells the story of his friend Thomas who as a young man struggled with his mental health and had planned to take his own life at the pine tree in his garden. After a storm the tree was uprooted and lay in his garden and so was the turning point in Thomas’ life. If your struggling hold on is the message here.
4 – 1985 is an energetic pop/rock tune reminiscing of teenage days of big hair, dodgy clothes and a love story.
5 – Heavy Shot Of Love is in the same vein but with a heavier edge and a sing-a-long chorus, written by Daniel and Conal.
6 – Leaving Town is about families’ struggles with unemployment and little prospects with generation after generation leaving for that greener grass. Written by Conal and has a nod to old Don Henley and Bon Jovi classics Boys Of Summer and Living On A Prayer.
7 – Holy War is an anti-war song which pours out the frustration of what is happening in Isreal and Gaza.
8 – Gratitude is just what it is, gratitude for life.
9 – Lost My Mind In California is the story of a young person Conal met in California while on holiday. The person had fallen on hard times and had basically given up and was suffering in drugs and mental struggles. Thankfully this story has a happy ending.
10 – Hell and Back is pure rock and is the band’s take on the soul itself.
11 – Black Hearts and Diamonds is another classic blues story of 2 young lovers living and surviving on the road. Inspired by 2 young people playing cards in a county pub where Conal happened to be playing a solo gig one summer afternoon.
Most of the songs are written by Conal on acoustic and then the guys would build around that or as Conal says, “I give them the acoustic version and they throw it against the wall confident in what will come back, I trust these guys”.

Black Dog Moon’s sound and songs have been received very well and have gained notoriety for being diverse in their song writing. Conal says: “I want people to come to our gigs and leave thinking they have witnessed every genre of rock and metal during the show.
Even when we really rock, we try to stay melodic. We are recording this track, and the album live with no click throughout to try and keep that live feel. We feel we are slowly and organically growing and moving up the ladder and have made a good name for ourselves on the local scene.”
With no promoter or booking agent, the band have secured a slot at this year’s Planet Rockstock in Trecco Bay Wales on Saturday 29th November 2025 playing same day as Wayward Sons, Massive Wagons and Ugly Kid Joe.

About The Band:
Black Dog Moon’ is a 5-piece rock band from County Down, Northern Ireland. The band was formed by lead singer Conal Montgomery 54, who, after finding his sobriety in 2016, wrote and recorded two solo albums, and has returned to his roots writing a selection of rock songs which culminated in the band’s first album which was released on 28th June 2024 also called Black Dog Moon.
Conal was at the helm of classic rock cover band ‘Sweetleaf’ for most of his career touring Ireland and the UK. ‘Sweetleaf’ performed at The Bulldog Bash, England in 2008, which was headlined by Motörhead. Conal is a professional musician in the Irish scene and performs music from his two previous albums and has recently supported Eric Bell (ex-Thin Lizzy). With a voice in company with the likes of Dio, this guy is certainly one to keep a close eye on.
Nicky Brown 48 (Bass) has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Richie Havens from the original Woodstock. That should be enough said, but he has also performed extensively throughout Ireland and the UK with bands such as ‘Brownstone’ and ‘The Speedy Mullan Blues Band’ and was part of the original lineup of the successful ‘Blues At The Mill’ Festival in Ireland. Nicky is one of the most respected and talented bassists on the blues scene in Ireland and brings with him the style and attitude of what Rock is all about!
Stevie Glackin 52 (Drums) has been on the live rock and blues scene for many years, taking influence from classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and ZZ Top. A big sound from the king of wands, adds and truly enhances the rhythm section of Black Dog Moon given that he and Nicky have performed together since 2004.
Completing the band lineup is Daniel Martin 28 (Guitar) and Dylan Kelly 27, 2 young superstar guitarists who have talent in abundance. These guys come as a package with both guitarists creating a wall of rock for your ears with melodic harmonies that have tinges of Thin Lizzy greatness! Daniel and Dylan were the original guitarists with successful young Irish rockers ‘Saint Sapphire,’
Black Dog Moon are already making a noise on the local scene playing the famous Diamond Rock Club in early 2024 and due to appear again in November after impressing. They have also appeared at The Hilden Beer Festival for the second year running and have been invited back to headline in 2025. They have secured a slot at Planet Rockstock in November 2025. This blend of youth and experience has a bite to it. The Dogs Are Coming!!!
