Bilk share new single ‘On It’

After the incendiary decadence of their recent single ‘F Up’ received Radio 1 airplay from Nels Hylton, an array of key playlists across Spotify, Amazon and Deezer, plus coverage from Dork,  anarchic rock ‘n’ rollers Bilk now share the new single ‘On It’. It’s the second track to preview their new album ‘Essex, Drugs and Rock and Roll’ which follows on January 24th via Scruff of the Neck.

‘On It’ is a bouncy, boisterous, bass-heavy celebration which sees the Bilk boys living for the weekend and treating every Saturday night like it’s their last. Throw a dart at a map of the UK and you’ll surely hit a town in which the scenes they describe are replicated every week. Maybe such hedonism isn’t as in vogue as it was, but countless young people still enjoy the wild rush of a chaotic escape from the mundane routine of their daily lives.

Sol Abrahams says, “‘‘On It’ is a song about partying. It doesn’t get more complex than that really. It’s about drinking, taking drugs, having fun and getting fucked up with your mates. Life is short and we’ll all be dead at some point so why not have fun? You wanna have a good time, you know what I mean.”

‘On It’ was written by Sol, before he and bandmates Luke Hare (bass) and Harry Gray (drums) recorded the track during rapidfire sessions at Edge Studios and Silkmill Studios with Andy Gannon (AIKO, The HARA)

‘On It’ and ‘F Up’ are indicative of the themes that dominate the ‘Essex, Drugs and Rock and Roll’ album. It’s full of distinctly British experiences that most people experience in their teen and young adult years: love and lust, embarking and occasionally learning from wild misadventures, feeling as if you don’t belong, wanting more from life than the opportunities that arise in small town life, parties and punch-ups, and a fear of a future which looks far from secure.

The band’s indie-punk roots are still the driving force of their sound, but it’s a record that goes broader, with raw acoustic singalongs, hip-hop-tinged beats, grunge dynamics and heavyweight blues all part of their riotous wall of sound. It’s a mix that will appeal to fans of  The Streets, Arctic Monkeys, early Green Day, Nirvana and Rat Boy.

Bilk have already exceeded 20 million streams, but it’s their rambunctious live show that best highlights the intense connection shared between the band and their fans. They’ve sold-out London shows at Omeara, The 100 Club and The Garage; and powered through festival sets at Reading, SXSW, Truck, The Great Escape, Louis Tomlinson’s Away From Home and, most recently, their third consecutive year at Reading. They were even famously banned from Rough Trade when an in-store descended into chaos.
