beaux has always been ahead of the game, but as he sings on his new EP how can i sleep? i’m wide awake, due for release on 28th October via Dirty Hit, he’s ready to let the success he’s destined for come in good time.

The news is paired with the eagerly awaited new single ‘let’s go’, the third to be taken from the EP. Debuted earlier this year to a packed out crowd at The Great Escape, it’s a step-by-step narration of a conversation between beaux and his girlfriend.

“I wrote the track with Jonah Summerfield last year at the Dirty Hit studio.” explains beaux. “We’d been there the whole day and not really come up with that much – I just kept messing around with this beautiful 50’s Gibson Les Paul Junior that had just come into the studio and I wanted to write something around that guitar. My manager turned up with his new dog and as everyone was chatting, I took the LP Junior into the other room and started to write and it just came to me.”

For his fourth EP, beaux is amping things up. Putting out his first releases during the pandemic meant he had little cause to think about performing his songs live. Then, when the world began to reopen in 2021, he began booking gigs with his backing band (comprised of his neighbour Tate on bass and drummer Lyle) – events that had a big impact on where he wants to take his music now.

Exchanging his bedroom for the studio, how can i sleep? i’m wide awake features more live instruments and real drums, a path he wants to explore further as he progresses with his music. Tracks like ‘benadryl’ and ‘let’s go’ course with the raucous energy of Green Day, both intended to capture the feeling of being “in the moment” and form new anthems dedicated to young love. ‘can’t help but let you down’ cuts a more tender – but no less addictive – form, glistening melodies underpinning beaux’s lyrics about his mum.  “You helped me out on the weekend / When I was stressed for that meeting,” he sings in a gentle hush. “But when it’s you needing me / And you start calling, I can’t help but let you down.”

“I just want to make sure my music is self-sustaining over the long term – I don’t care about being really rich, I just want to be able to tour and make music forever,” he smiles. With yet another EP of brilliantly infectious alt-pop under his belt, he’s one step closer to making that a reality.

beaux will play his debut headline show at London’s Camden Assembly on October 18th this year. Tickets are on sale now via Live Nation.
