Out of Baltimore, Maryland comes The S.E.T. who are crafting 100% unapologetic hardcore music. With a line-up of bassist Che (founder of Flatspot Records), guitarist Brady (formerly of Turnstile), drummer Ryan (formerly of End It), and vocalist Tim, the band has already grabbed attention before releasing any music. Today they unveil single “T.M.T.” and announce their debut Self Evident Truth EP, slated for release March 6th through Flatspot Records. “T.M.T.” is a two-stepper packed into a minute and half of groove-driven guitars and furious vocals. The song, and much of the EP, addresses keeping a clear vision within the chaos of the world. The band channel their rage in the Rob Silver directed music video accompanying the track. Watch it HERE and stream “T.M.T.” HERE.
Across the EP you’ll hear influence from Baltimore acts such as Gut Instinct (whose Sebastian Gorgone features on “White Lies”) and Stout and the crossover sounds of New York like Leeway and Judge. Recorded and mixed by Justin Day at New Noise Recording and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, the tracks roar with thick bass lines, fast-paced drums, and rage fueled vocals. Lyrics come from a place of candor, expressing the basis of equal rights and defying the propaganda the current administration is spewing.
Brady shares,
“In the Declaration of Independence the two self evident truths were that all people are created equal, and that everyone has the right to pursue happiness. Unfortunately, the powers that be have forgotten that and are trying to deny us normal working class citizens those truths, and we can’t let that happen.”
And Tim echoes,
“We live in a society, especially now with this current administration, where the people up top try to defy the truth through propaganda, war, racism and all forms of authoritarian ideas. I wanted this release to define what we are and what we believe the truth is.”
As The S.E.T. comes into fruition, the band wants to exist as a place to put words to action and come together as a community through both their music and live shows. The band will next perform in Baltimore on January 31st at the sold out Disturbin’ The Peace Fest alongside Hatebreed, End It, Agnostic Front, and more.
