Today, Baltimore hardcore outfit Ousted share “Reflections,” the second single from their upcoming How Do You Cope? EP set for release September 19th on Ashtray Monument Records. Featuring members of Pulling Teeth, Ruiner, Neolithic, and Dosser, the band is crafting hardcore that strikes a perfect balance between urgent and melodious. “Reflections” bursts out the gate with anguished vocals and doomy drums that lead into pulsating riffs and a cathartic hook begging to screamed along to. Vocalist Sean Reilly shares:
“I wrote this in response to getting older, being closer to death, and the feeling of hanging on for dear life some days. On lieu of all that, it touches on the idea of accepting and rejecting certain inherited aspects of personality and behaviors.”
Throughout How Do You Cope? Ousted address “the overall feeling and reoccurring theme is based a lot around the stages grief. From anger and bitterness, to depression and anxiety.” The seven tracks resonate with a restless delivery, sweeping through assertive vocals, melodic hooks, and gritty, layered rhythms. Working with their friends, Justin Smith of SWEAT and Dangers lends his vocals on opener “Sunkissed” and Alex Cha of Pig Destroyer created a harsh noise sample on the track “Heavy Breather.” The EP was produced, recorded, and mixed by Justin Day at New Noise Recording Studio (End It, Glocca Morra) in Baltimore and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege.
