“Balmora sound like they’re reinventing their turn-of-the-millennium influences rather than just rehashing them.” – BrooklynVegan

“A sound that translates as both searing and sinister.” – Knotfest

“This is not nostalgia-core…. This is an obsession given form.” –  Rock ‘N’ Load

“It is simply a Balmora record, and a really good one at that.” – Lambgoat

“These Graven Halls is a riff-driven, 808-laden colossus of a record that utilizes its impressive 45 minute plus runtime to drench the listener in everything from a frenetic salvo of fretwork to somber, sullen atmosphere.” – New Transcendence

“Tracks like “Ammonite” and “Ophelia” are ambitious undertakings that perfectly capture the metalcore spirit whilst invigorating it with Gothic, Castlevania-esque vibes that are simply cool.” – Boolin Tunes

Today, BALMORA deliver their highly anticipated debut album, THESE GRAVEN HALLS, available through DAZE. The record pushes the dynamics of metal, weaving elements of metalcore and melodic black metal with a futuristic touch. The lyrics build off self-reflection, tracing through anguish, deception, and power. Influences pull from the obvious like The Black Dahlia Murder and On Broken Wings to a mix of media, classical, and modern music – Requiem For A DreamSilent Hill, Philip Glass, Bladee. As BALMORA make significant impact in reaching their true self as a band, they bring in friends from I Promised The World, Upon Stone, Empty Shell Casing and Holder to feature on the album. THESE GRAVEN HALLS was recorded at The Source in New Haven, CT with production, engineering, and mixing by band members Chaz Torok and Jay Torblaa, and mastering by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege.

On the writing process and themes of the album, guitarist Jay Torblaa shares:

“These Graven Halls is a collection of stories with certain repeating motifs. While the record was written over the course of almost three years, Paul and I collaborated on the themes, lyrics, and song titles in a month and I can easily say it wouldn’t have been what it is without his input. The main vibe and feeling of this album is self reflection— whether it be positive, negative, or unrelated to the band completely, the record touches on it. It feels like a thousand years have passed since most of these songs were written and so much has changed— in a way, I feel like this record helped me to mature as a human as much as a guitar player. I want that to be something that shows through these songs, if people can draw their own parallels to our lyrics and use it to weather their personal hurricane, we have succeeded.”

Alongside the album release, BALMORA have a packed tour schedule ahead. Next week, BALMORA will embark on part one of their US headliner with support from label mates Holder and Azshara. Then in July they’ll join the Summer Slaughter tour with Hatebreed, Devourment, Incantation, Snuffed on Sight, and Face Yourself, including appearances at Hellfest and The Rumble. On July 25th they’ll head out on a west coast US headline tour with support from Empty Shell Casing, Killing Pace, In 2 Again and The Test Dream on select dates. This September, Balmora will head to Canada to support Counterparts 905 day show, with surrounding headline shows. Full routing below and tickets on sale at balmorametal.com.
