Today sees the release of FREE, the highly anticipated new single from London-based alternative artist Anna Wolf. Known for her haunting soundscapes that blend romance with darkness, Wolf has captivated audiences worldwide with her deeply personal and evocative music. Described as “the love child of Sia and Johnny Cash,” she has a unique talent for merging emotional vulnerability with raw intensity.
Born in Pretoria, South Africa, Anna began her musical journey at the tender age of five, using songwriting as an outlet to cope with the domestic abuse she experienced and witnessed at home. “FREE,” produced by Alex Thomas (Air, Anna Calvi), continues Wolf’s tradition of deeply emotional storytelling, with a sound she describes as a “cinematic, visceral, distortionate valve synth.”
In her own words, Anna explains, “FREE speaks of finding yourself caught between old patterns and the new possibilities of finding love. It’s about being stuck in relationships that don’t serve you, staying because it feels familiar and ‘romantically abusive.’ I spent years in those kinds of relationships. No one could have talked me out of them. I had to learn to let go for myself. The moment I did, I experienced a deep sense of liberation and self-love. It was incredibly freeing to accept myself fully, flaws and all.”
Her latest single reflects the journey of breaking free from toxic cycles, a message she hopes resonates with her listeners. “Flaws are necessary,” Anna continues. “They create the contrast we need to see the black and white in life, helping us find balance and make decisions from a place of love rather than fear. I hope this song speaks to others in the way it healed me.”
Anna’s career is a testament to her diverse talents. Her 2019 win as the first South African artist to take home the Grand Prize at the Global Unsigned Only Competition cemented her place as one of the most compelling voices in the music world.
