Championed by Noel Gallagher, Pete Doherty, Sam Fender and Louis Tomlinson, Andrew Cushin lived up to the hype with his debut album ‘Waiting For The Rain’, which spent three weeks at #1 on the Official Independent Album Breakers Chart while surging into the Top 10 on the Independent Albums and Record Store Charts. He also became an increasingly big draw in the live arena, particularly in his hometown of Newcastle where he became the youngest Geordie to sell-out the City Hall with 4500 people in attendance over two nights, before subsequently headlining the big outdoor Tyne of the Mouth Festival last summer.
That, however, was just the beginning. 2025 will see Andrew Cushin fulfil Music Week’s prediction that he’s set to “do a Sam Fender” and rise to even greater things with the release of his second album, ‘Love Is For Everyone’, on May 2nd via LAB Records. Andrew today introduces the album with the lead single ‘L.I.F.E.’ and also announces details of his next UKheadline tour. Listen HERE. Watch the official video HERE.
Just as ‘Waiting For The Rain’ introduced a bigger, bolder sound from that of his early EPs, ‘Love Is For Everyone’ again sees Andrew pushing his sound into new territory. That expressive, all-feeling voice still dominates and brings his relatable and poignant autobiographical lyrics to life. This time, however, the music’s scale is amplified further, taking in a diverse array of influences and setting the stage for his singer-songwriter roots to crash headfirst into mainstream awareness. The album was produced by Gareth Nuttall, who has helped The K’s and Lottery Winners rise from cult level favourites to the upper reaches of the charts.
Andrew says, “I’ve tried to create this record using influences from music I listened to growing up as well as a few various songs I’m into today. There’s a song for everybody on this record I think: a folky toe tapper, anthemic rock ballads and a few sentimental numbers. Instrumentally I think we’ve really picked up the pace and created something people can get their teeth into. I’m really proud of this record, it’s definitely something that I would listen to as a fan!”
‘L.I.F.E.’ demonstrates why Andrew is poised to make his biggest connection yet. Simply put, every aspect sounds next level, from its booming introductory beats to the strident baritone of his vocal through to the cinematic scope and nuanced details that flourish throughout the production. Thematically it’s a subtle twist too: often Andrew has spoken observationally of striving to cope with life’s challenges. But this time he’s encouraging people to do all they can regardless of their circumstances and celebrating the things that make life worth living.
He adds, “I’ve had the song written for a little while now and played it acoustically at a number of shows. I first started writing it in the USA, when we toured with Louis Tomlinson, and we played it at a few soundchecks. I think it’s a great subject matter, everybody has something or someone they love, and I tried to capture that in the lyrics. Instrumentally it’s a show stopper for sure.”
Andrew revisits his hometown roots for the single’s accompanying video, which was shot at the Bridge Hotel in Newcastlewith director Luca Rudlin (Lottery Winners, The Reytons).
‘Love Is For Everyone’ is now available to pre-order or pre-save HERE. Fans who pre-order the album from his official store will receive access to a pre-sale which opened yesterday and will remain live until tickets go on general sale from 10am on Friday 22nd November.
Raised on a council estate in the Newcastle suburb of Heaton, Andrew Cushin first made waves with his self-released debut single ‘It’s Gonna Get Better’ in 2020 leading to just his third track, ‘Where’s My Family Gone’, being produced by Noel Gallagher. His rise continued when he signed to Peter Doherty’s Strap Originals for his first EP ‘You Don’t Belong’ before he recorded his debut album ‘Waiting For The Rain’ with producer Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers) at The Libertines’ Albion Rooms Studio in Margate.
Hitting the road, he has toured arenas across Europe and North America as special guest to Louis Tomlinson; played big outdoor shows with Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, Blossoms, Lathums and The Reytons; and completed an extensive packed UK and Ireland headline tour in 2023. His immense potential has also been recognised with brand endorsements from Aston Martin, YETI and Weekend Offender.
