After enjoying his latest extended run on
BBC Radio 2’s B-list for the recent single
‘Elvis, I Love You’ which added to a career tally of
350 million streams,
Swedish star
Albin Lee Meldau continues to elevate his ascendant international profile as he today shares an equally enticing single in the shape of
‘Sinking Like A Stone’. Listen
HERE.‘Sinking Like A Stone’ feels like a moment of late night introspection, with Albin looking back and regretting the moments that defined the end of a relationship. His soulful, pop-leaning singer-songwriter style expresses such heartache like a masterful troubadour, his voice alternating between pained, expressive power and tremulous sorrow. They say it’s the things you don’t do that you regret the most, and the song’s most cutting moment is his pained admittance, “I just gave up and went back home.”
Albin says, “This song is about a memory of a break up and the heavy feeling of sinking like a stone.”
‘Sinking Like A Stone’ is the latest result of Albin’s highly productive collaborations with the Grammy / Ivor Novello-winner Eg White (Adele, Florence + The Machine) who he also wrote ‘Elvis, I Love You’ and ‘When You’re Here’ with.
As shown by his recent singles, Albin Lee Meldau is an artist who flourishes when he stares into the mirror and writes with unflinching honesty about his past. It’s a quality shown in ‘When You’re Here’ which tackles a similar story to ‘Sinking Like A Stone’ from a position of hope that the relationship could be still salvaged. And it’s present in ‘Elvis, I Love You’, which rewinds the clock to a time when his previous alcoholism threatened to end his career for good. But Albin can also demonstrate that love can be the tonic to such challenges, as heard in ‘Hold Your Head Up’, his collaboration with Jack Savoretti. He can also excel with imaginative interpretations of classic songs, as demonstrated with a performance of ‘The Winner Takes It All’ during an all-star show to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ABBA’s Eurovision win, which was televised by Swedish broadcaster SVT.
That event is indicative of Albin’s stardom in Scandinavia, where he has achieved numerous Top 10 hits in Sweden and Norway. Last year’s multi-Platinum ‘Josefin’ with a Gen Z audience, leading to thousands of video creations and covers onTikTok – proving that Albin’s appeal is now multi-generational. He commands a huge following for live shows too, notably with last year’s headline gig at the 16,000 capacity Avicii Arena in Stockholm.
The summer will see Albin play a selection of headline shows and festivals throughout Europe. He is also scheduled to play his first UK show since selling out his headline performance at St. Pancras Old Church last year with a set as special guest to Jack Savoretti at Dreamland Margate on July 5th.
