British pop boyband Absnt Mind release their new single Alle stree Lane. An emotional, thou ght-provoking song written by the boys with Jamie Squire, guitarist with The 197 5. The track is all about the pain and emotion of having to move out of your family home when family circumstances change, something that Freddie went through at the age of 17, and something that will resonate with many families everywhere.
Freddie said ‘This was an emot ional trip down memory lane for me. When family circumstances chan ge, you try to be strong for everyone, you put on a brave face and keep going. Sitting down with Jamie and the boys writing this song was so raw. I never realised quite how much the whole moving home thing had affected me and writing this song, reliving that time and the memories within those four walls at Allestree Lane became an emotional process I wasn’t expecting.’
Absnt Mind have been writing w ith Jamie Squire both in Londo n and also at the 1975 Studio in Newcastle. Writing with a 1975 band member blew the boys minds, they have been fans of the band for a long time, especially Alex, Conor and Oscar. Jamie Squire said, ‘Writing with these boys was a real eye opener. I had thought I would have to do the writing and they would just tell me what they liked, but from that first day when they walked into the studio, they knew they had an idea they wanted to explore and their creativity and talent, writing ability and sense of purpose just took over. They are very gifted song-writers.’
Indeed, coming together through a shared love of songwriting, the five members – Alex, Ashton, Conor, Freddie and Oscar – co-write every song and represent the complex and introspective viewpoints of their generation Z.
After a huge summer of sold ou t headline tour dates and key support slots from the likes o f Sugababes and Olly Murs, Absnt Mind closed 2025with an intimate London headline show. It’s been a massive few month s for the band with idol Sabrina Carpenter reposting th eir ‘Manchild’ videoon TikTok, pop high pries tess Jade liking their ‘ Natural At Disaster’ cover, and Sienna Spiro also a doring their version of ‘Die O n This Hill’ alongwith praise from Zach Templar. The boys are now in the studio writing with pop royalty such as Ed Drewett and Mike Needle. Not many new bands can sell 10,000 tickets in just under a year, but Absnt Mind have captured the hearts of their generation through honest storytelling. Thefive boys cam e up with their name having fe lt so much pressure, from exam s to social media presence, and their drive is to encourag e theirgrowing fanbase to free your mind from pressure and l ive in the moment. Have an Absnt Mind.
Since moving into their house together, Absnt Mind’s bond ha s become rock-solid. “We’ve ha d a lot of time to develop the band’s sound and image organically while working on our friendship,” Oscar says. They’ve also honed their stage craft and live vocals by performing at schools up and down the country. School shows have also allowed Absnt Mind to share advice and connect wi th young people who are still figuring outtheir paths in lif e. “We always do a Q&A session after we perform. I think that lets people see that we’re ju st normal lads who happen to b emaking our way in the music world. It demystifies the whole thing,” Alex says. “And we talk a lot about mental health, toxic masculinity and bullying which are really important iss ues for us as a band,” Oscar a dds. “I think it’s helpful for kids to hear us speaking open ly about that stuffbecause we’re only a couple of years older t han them. I wish I’d been able to have those conversations when I was at school.”
Absnt Mind have already gained support from Spotify, Apple, BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1, RTE, Official Charts, MTV, Clash, Daily Star, NME, Hotpress for their previous releases, heartfelt pop anthem “Special”, fun summer vibe “Wardrobe’, confident ‘ Simpatico” and the Benny &The Jets influenced “Stitch”, whic h have all brought new worldwi de fans to the Absnt Mind table. Not what you ex pect from a boyband but Absnt Mind arere-writing what it means to be a one in 2025.
