Acclaimed Nashville rockers A Thousand Horses have released the deluxe version of The Outside, which features bonus live & acoustic material and the previously unreleased single ‘Til My Heart Don’t Beat’.
Originally released last year, The Outside is the band’s third studio album and signifies a turning point in their career after a period of intense change in their personal lives.
Lead singer Michael Hobby comments, “We are thrilled to release the deluxe version of our album, The Outside, and share a new song, ‘Til My Heart Don’t Beat’. This song serves as a bridge to the next chapter and what’s to come. It’s been a long time since we last returned to the UK, and I couldn’t be more excited to be back this summer. I can’t wait to see everyone!”
The album opens with the life-affirming ‘Highway Sound’, a soul-soothing track that instantly set the tone for the album. It first took shape over the course of a weekend trip to a Texas farmhouse in the summer 2021, during which the band wrote the song during an impromptu session on the porch. About the track Hobby adds it’s “the freedom of cutting ties with the negativity of the past and putting your energy into celebrating a new beginning.”
Over the course of its 12 songs, The Outside sheds light on everything from the thrill of following your own path on ‘The Outside’, a powerfully cathartic rock-and-roll anthem, to the sweet relief of finding inner peace on the gorgeously understated ‘No News’, to the profound pain of disconnection on ‘Strangers’, with heavy-hearted lyrics written by Hobby with Chris Stapleton.
As the album unfolds, A Thousand Horses match its emotional complexity with an equally intricate and unpredictable sound. “We really wanted to explore in the studio, and Jon was the right producer to guide us through that,” guitarist Bill Satcher says. “Our thinking behind everything was, ‘If it seems obvious, let’s do the exact opposite.’” To that end, the unbridled instrumental ‘Southeastern Stomp’ emerged from a late-night burst of pure spontaneity, while the slow-burning ‘Roll On’ morphs into an all-out epic at its sublimely explosive bridge.
And on ‘Over The Counter’, A Thousand Horses deliver a darkly hypnotic track fuelled by fantastically gritty outlaw-country grooves. “With ‘Over The Counter’ there was no demo or preconceived idea of what the song should be,” bassist Graham DeLoach points out. “It ended up being one of the most creative moments in the whole process of making the record, where we just got together and made everything up on the fly.”
Produced by Grammy Award-winner Jon Randall, The Outside further demonstrates the band’s powerful musicianship and soulful urgency, which has made them a formidable force in the live arena, and was first revealed on Southernality — the 2015 debut LP produced by Dave Cobb, which features the platinum certified single ‘Smoke’.
A Thousand Horses are a two-time ACM Award nominated Nashville group and with 320 million+ streams, sold-out shows, and widespread acclaim are also known for their incendiary live show, and have toured with iconic acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean, Greg Allman and more.
Following a 52-show tour last year, A Thousand Horses will make their return to the UK this summer with dates in Glasgow, Manchester and London. Tickets are on sale now and available here.
