LEDFOOT
Ledfoot (aka Tim Scott McConnell) has released a new single today (6th November) entitled ‘Doggone Blues’. Reeking of gasoline, bourbon and old-school Delta blues, the song was recorded live in the studio and captures the raw energy and intensity that defined early blues pioneers such as Son House and Mississippi John Hurt.
With gritty slide guitar, dark authority and a sound that cuts straight through the crossroads of blues, Americana, rock and folk, ‘Doggone Blues’ demonstrates why the Florida, US born but Norway-based musician remains one of the most distinctive voices on the scene and is often referred to as the King of Gothic Blues.
“There are countless ways to swear politely in the south,” explains Ledfoot. “I grew up saying ‘doggone it‘, before life taught me the blues part later.”
‘Doggone Blues’ is the first single from a new album, ‘This Ragged Road’, scheduled for release in early February 2027. It will be the ninth Ledfoot record since McConnell began performing under the name in 2007.
LEDFOOT | BIOGRAPHY
Ledfoot (Tim Scott McConnell) is an American musician and songwriter who has been based in Norway for the last three decades. A member of The Rockats (US) while in his teens, he subsequently recorded two solo records as Tim Scott in the mid-‘80s before co-founding The Havalinas, who also issued two albums and supported Bob Dylan on his ‘Oh Mercy’ world tour to promote the first of them. His 1987 solo song ‘High Hopes’ was subsequently covered twice by Bruce Springsteen, initially as part of a 1996 EP and again for what became the title song of a 2014 album that went to no. 1 in multiple territories, including both the US and UK.
In between these boosts from The Boss, McConnell had begun recording a highly distinctive brand of Gothic Blues as Ledfoot from his base in the Norwegian woods, with his first of eight albums to date under that name appearing in 2007. His thickly-strung 12-string acoustic guitar played with a brass slide and stomp box served as accompaniment to his weather-beaten voice, sounding raw and genuinely real.
He has gone on to win the Spellemann Award (Norwegian Grammy) twice in the Blues Album category, including for ‘Coffin Nails’ (2023). His most recent album, ‘Plain Simple Honesty’ (2025), further honed his signature sound. In addition to 12-string guitar, he played baritone guitar, bass, percussion and banjo, the last of these being his first stringed instrument and displaying the clear influence of early heroes Doc Boggs and Roscoe Holcomb.
