Norwegian prog-metal explorers GRANT THE SUN have shared new a track titled “A Chemical Floor,” taken from their forthcoming new album Biomes, due out October 16 via Mas-Kina Recordings. LISTEN TO “A CHEMICAL FLOOR” Along with the recently released “Tedium,” the new track offers another glimpse into the restless, shape-shifting sound of Biomes, where crushing progressive metal, expansive post-metal and intricate technicality collide. Featuring members of Insense, Beaten To Death, and more, Grant The Sun have spent years twisting progressive metal, post-metal, and post-rock into their own shape. With Biomes, they’re pushing everything further, heavier, stranger, more melodic, and now incorporating vocals into their sound. Previous singles “Cinder” and “Gold” have already offered contrasting glimpses into the record. Heavy Blog Is Heavy praised “Cinder” for its “Meshuggah-esque riff/vocals combo,” while Metal Injection hailed it as “a powerful preview” of the band’s “intricate musicianship, cinematic scope, and progressive ambition.” At the heart of Biomes is duality. The record moves between two interconnected worlds: vast, slow-burning post-metal landscapes and crushing, technically adventurous progressive metal, reflected in artwork where an arid desert gradually gives way to a lush rainforest. Written over the course of the past year, the album emerged from an intensive creative process fueled by experimentation, technical ambition, and a determination to push beyond the band’s previous achievements. “Creating this album has been a continuous long-lasting process stretched over the last year. Working towards a deadline kept us on our toes and gave us new challenges in terms of time signatures, technical parts, and arrangements.
