Mr Pink Breaks Their 2026 Silence with New Single ‘Cry Wolf’ (Irish alt rock)
The ambiguity of MrPink allows the band to be everything and nothing simultaneously, not unlike their namesake from Reservoir Dogs. The band have been building a following with a steady release of singles including 2024’s ‘Love Hate Heartbreak’, ‘Feed The Disease’ and a trifecta of singles in 2025 ‘Unknown’, ‘Psycho’ and ‘End of You’. Alongside catching the sharpened ears of Hot Press, RTE, PureMZine, TheBeat.IE, Dailyworm on XPRadio, Chordblossom, UberRock’s Singles Club Daily Pick, Rock N Load Magazine and earning Turn up The Volume’s ‘Pick of the Day’ they also earned the band a slot at NI’s legenday Stendhal Festival and United Tribes in 2026. Building on this success the band break their 2026 silence with groove heavy new single ‘Cry Wolf’.

Having played in various outfits together over the years, MrPink formed around Mark Russell (guitar), Michael Smith (drums), Mark McCallion(bass) and Adam Mullan(vocals) who finally after getting in a room together, to quote Spinal Tap, looked at each other and thought “We may as well… join up”.

Forgoing any previous bands and throwing off the shackles of a cover scene, from the outset the band were keen not to be pinned down to one particular sound, opting for the freedom found in a genreless approach to their writing. The creative process is a fully collaborative process, the band play in a vast sandbox, pulling on influences as diverse as K-Pop to heavy metal and funk to stadium rock. This unconstrained approach to song writing gives MrPink the freedom to explore an array of ideas, songs dovetail between neck snapping head bangers to floor filler funk, sometimes in the same 4 minutes. It’s only after the many hands have pulled and twisted the idea does it become a MrPink song.
Most MrPink songs are born of the chaos of the practice room, and new single ‘Cry Wolf’ is no exception. The band say most songs are written in the last 15 minutes of practice as they pack up. Unincumbered by expectation the band are able to cut free. ‘Cry Wolf’ is a quentessential MrPink song, bringing together elements of funk and heavy rock, creating a dangerous situation on any dance floor. As though Chic and Faith No More collaborated on track. At the heart of the track is a funky bass line that would have Bootsy Collins dipping his starshaped sunglasses. It snakes throughout the track providing a canvas for the rest of the band to paint on. Michael’s drums add exclaimation points throughout, whether its the gunshot picollo snare that keeps the back beat locked down, hi hat barks in the verse or as the track progresses and drums push the dynamics of the song into hevier territory while keeping locked in with the bass. Mark’s guitar stays firmly in the funk realm, moving between Niles Rodgers style percussive strumming and muted notes that add dynamics to the verse. As the song develops the distortion might increase but the feel and rhythmic approach remains. Lyrically the track is about the frustrations associated with the mind numbing monotony of the everyday 9-5 work life, of feeling your sense of individually dwindle daily, and any idea of fulfillment shrink alongside it. But ultimately, it’s about rebellion and reclaiming control, kicking back against the shackles and embracing the unknown as you free yourself of them…with a wolf scream for good measure. The song pulses with tension and release, across the verse and choruses but also as the song develops, alongside the protagonists rage and eventual self found freedom.
Recorded as part of Start Togethers ‘Ready to Roll’ initative the band had only one hour to nail the track. Hours spent honing the song in the practice room paid off and as the red light switched the band locked in to deliver. Michael Bell captured the energy of the band, the relationship between the players and the special alchemy that accompanies that, which is the true heart of MrPink.
The music video was created by film students from BelfastMet, building a visual story around the themes of identity, escape, and breaking away from the everyday, they introduced the ‘Pink Wolf’, brilliantly played by local actor Anthony McKenna.
‘Cry Wolf’ is MrPink’s 7th single, and over the course of the release the band have explored a vast sonic territory and built a following that recognises the freedom in their genreless approach to songwriting. As the band turn their minds to an album, there are endless options for them to pursue and a crowd baying like hungry wolves at the door in wait for it.
