Birmingham quartet Mirrortalk have today announced their new EP, Where Does Everyone Go When I Need Them Most, due out November 27th via new label home Hassle Records.

The EP announcement arrives alongside ‘Forget My Name’, a track that turns inward, exploring self-doubt, isolation and the instinct to push people away when you’re struggling with who you are.

Speaking of the new single Mirrortalk vocalist Mat Coffey shares, “Forget My Name talks to those who fight with themselves. When you don’t like who you are, the easiest mistake to make is to push people away, even if you know you need them. This song is about what it feels like when you want people to forget you.”

MIRRORTALK – ‘Forget My Name’

The new EP sees Mirrortalk continue to build on their distinctive blend of post-hardcore urgency, shoegaze atmosphere and grunge-soaked intensity. Across its tracks, the band draw on the metal, hardcore, shoegaze and rock that shaped them, combining jagged guitar work, towering melodies and raw emotion into their most defining release to date.

“Mirrortalk has always been built on a desire to combine all the music we loved growing up; but ‘Where Does Everyone Go When I Need Them Most’ is our greatest nod to that yet,” shares Mat. “Elements of metal and hardcore, shoegaze, and pure rock have gone into every track, making it feel like a new offering that is grounded in some familiarity for people who are fans of the same music as us.

The recording was done at Lower Lane Studios by our good friend Jonny Price, and if there’s one thing we took seriously while tracking, it was guitar tone. We wanted the release to be driven by the guitar, and throughout the process we dialled in and layered some sounds we feel are hitting the nail on the head for what Mirrortalk wants to sound like.

Throughout our other releases we have tackled a lot of topics around mental health and self-battling. This continues through this release, but also touches on some other personal notes we hope people can feel connected to. “Where Does Everyone Go When I Need Them Most” is the best reflection of our direction, and we just hope people want to come along”

Mirrortalk will headline Birmingham’s O2 Institute 3 on 27 November for a special EP release party, celebrating the release of their new record with a hometown headline show. The band will also perform at The Flapper in Birmingham on 19 September alongside Spilt Chain and Castlefest in Luton on 26 September alongside label mates False Reality.

Talking on their upcoming headline show, the band share, “We’re absolutely buzzing to play our biggest headline yet in our home town. After a few years of playing most the venues around Brum, it’s class that we can bring something bigger and better for this next show.

We’re really proud of the new EP, and there’s a lot of personal connection to the songs for us, so getting to play the entirety of it is something we’ve been looking forward to for ages. But we also can’t wait to share the stage with friends and local talent.

Quality bands like Crush and Vienna are testament to the variety we have in Brum, and our mates from Head Cloud are some seriously talented people. We want to showcase some of the local scene, get people moving, and play some tunes we hope people connect with.”
