After introducing themselves with two loud and angry singles, Oslo’s THE APE are pulling things in a different direction with “Touchy,” the third glimpse of their forthcoming debut album, due in 2027 via Loyal Blood Records. This time, the anger gives way to something quieter, more reflective and perhaps considerably more uncomfortable: getting older and wondering where the hell the time went. “Touchy” is about slowly running out of new things to say. It’s about becoming friends with your robot vacuum cleaner, collecting takeaway coupons, suddenly crying at movie endings that once wouldn’t have registered, and coming to the unsettling realization that the years seem to be moving considerably faster than they used to. There is no grand political statement hiding beneath it all. No inspirational lesson. No triumphant self-improvement arc.
