Norwegian prog-metal explorers Grant The Sun today reveal “Gold,” another single from their forthcoming album Biomes, due out October 16 via Mas-Kina Recordings. Following the release of “Cinder,” “Gold” dives deeper into the band’s progressive side, pairing intricate rhythms and technical precision with soaring melodies and their trademark cinematic scope. With Biomes, they’re pushing everything further, heavier, stranger, more melodic, and now incorporating vocals into their sound. The first taste, “Cinder,” already turned a few heads, with Heavy Blog Is Heavy praising its “Meshuggah-esque riff/vocals combo” alongside its dreamier guitar work and unmistakable Grant The Sun weirdness. Metal Injection also hailed the track as “a powerful preview”, highlighting the band’s “intricate musicianship, cinematic scope, and progressive ambition.” At the heart of Biomes is duality. The record moves between two interconnected worlds: vast, slow-burning post-metal landscapes and crushing, technically adventurous progressive metal, reflected in artwork where an arid desert gradually gives way to a lush rainforest. Written over the course of the past year, the album emerged from an intensive creative process fueled by experimentation, technical ambition, and a determination to push beyond the band’s previous achievements. “Creating this album has been a continuous long-lasting process stretched over the last year. Working towards a deadline kept us on our toes and gave us new challenges in terms of time signatures, technical parts, and arrangements.
