Nashville, TN (July 17, 2026) – Today, Texas Red Dirt Country singer-songwriter, Wade Bowen, released “Turpentine,” the third single off his forthcoming studio album, The Version Of Me You Get (September 25 / Thirty Tigers). Written by longtime collaborator and producer Sean McConnell, the stripped-down ballad blends classic country storytelling with heartbreak and humour, with lyrics that put a quirky twist on the traditional sad drinking song. “Turpentine” is available to stream and purchase at all digital retailers HERE.
“As Sean McConnell and I were trying to figure out this record, we came across ‘Turpentine.’ He had written it a few years back, and like any great producer, he knew it fit what I was going through at the time. I also love sad songs and love country music, so naturally, it was the perfect fit,” shared Wade.
“Turpentine” features a wistful two-string melody and hard-hitting yet playful lyrics that poke fun at drinking away a heartbreak. Bowen’s baritone voice serenades different versions of the chorus, as one leads with, “I need something hotter than that fire water, burn her right off of my mind. The reflective, vulnerable storytelling featured on “Turpentine” takes fans even deeper into the mood and frame of mind that Bowen and McConnell were in while creating The Version Of Me You Get. Written and recorded during one of Bowen’s hardest chapters of life, the singer-songwriter didn’t feel ready to release the project until recently, when he revisited it with a fresh perspective. The difficult years between creating the album and preparing for its release allowed Bowen to grow and become more in-tune with who he is, seeing the songs in a new, more relatable light.
Previous releases from The Version Of Me You Get include the twangy “People Like Us” about Bowen’s humble family values and the heartbreaking “Rain,” which became one of Bowen’s strongest-performing radio singles in recent years, reaching #1 on the Texas Country Music and American Country Music charts and #2 on the CDX Texas chart.
