Before the release of their critically acclaimed and fan adored third album ‘CO.WAR.DICE.’, it had been eight years since MARMOZETS had taken new music into the world. Yet just weeks after the album was unveiled, their life-affirming resurgence continues as they share brand new track ‘Closer To You’.
This new era in the MARMOZETS’ tale has been driven by a maturity in their sound – blending tighter control with a more diverse sonic spectrum and emotional vulnerability. The intensely personal, ‘Closer To You’ adds a feral Marmozets bite to its tender ballad heart.
Vocalist Becca Bottomley says, “‘Closer To You’ started on an acoustic guitar during an improv session in the living room of Jack’s parents’ old house. The chorus came out of nowhere, but looking back, it clearly came from a very real place. Early on in my relationship with Jack, I wanted something so deep – more than I felt capable of offering, accepting, or even believing was possible. I wanted true love.
This song has been on a massive journey, growing and evolving at the exact same time I was doing the inner work on myself. Because I’ve lived with it for so long, releasing it now feels like letting it fly away; it almost feels separate from me now. Maybe you’ll hear that perspective in the music, but I’m okay with letting it just exist.
Sitting here on the couch today, I feel the most secure and loved I have ever felt in my life. I’ve made it to the other side of what I used to crave so desperately. No matter where this song goes from here, I’m incredibly proud of that growth.”
‘Closer To You’ was recorded with producer Mark Crew at his One Eyed Jack’s studio in Wimbledon.
Landing at #2 on the Official Rock & Metal Album Chart and at #6 on the Official Independent Albums Chart, ‘CO.WAR.DICE’proved that MARMOZETS could power into a fresh chapter without losing the intensity that fuelled their initial breakthrough.
This was matched in the live arena, with an intimate underplay tour and then a full headline run both selling out before they played to a huge, rammed crowd during a rapturously received Download set. The Kerrang! review stated, “Thank God Marmozets are back… They couldn’t have done a better job if they tried.” Further praise came from Clash (“They may win the award for loudest set of the whole weekend”) and Louder Than War (“They perform with the energy of a band making up for lost time”).
Next up is a set at Biffy Clyro’s Finsbury Park show on July 3rd before they hit the main stage at 2000trees on July 11th – their first return to the festival since 2018.
