Today, southeast hardcore band arson make their debut with their self-titled full length available through New Morality Zine. Comprised of veterans of the heavy music scene including members of Colonial Wound, former members of Excide, and Show Me Mary, arson delivers a barrage of sharp, short, and blistering songs that leave an immediate impression. The eight songs span an unsettling eleven minutes as arson demonstrate a violent exercise in sonic excess fueled by dense riffs, experimental tones, and dark, gritty vocals. At a time when hardcore and aggressive music have once again found commercial visibility, arson digs past the surface and into the genre’s bare-bones roots. Equal parts hostile, memorable, and cathartic, their debut is a reminder that some music is meant to challenge.
