On August 14th, California rock band Chico will release their debut album, Chico, through New Morality Zine. Across the ten tracks, the band deliver a sweltering mix of alternative rock, punk, and hardcore full of big energy. The record dives through what it feels like to have a dream and revolve your entire life around it, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with it. Having already previewed the album with the blistering single “Too Late,” today Chico share their catchy new single, “Blur.” The track is a pulse-quickening blend of bouncy riffs, baked rhythms, and punchy drums. Vocalist Lance Gibson sways between laid back lines and heightened shouts, demonstrating the seesaw dynamic that Chico exudes so well.

Speaking on “Blur,” drummer Tony Rangel shares:
“It’s about facing the question ‘should I give it up?’ You spend endless hours trying to make something work, so much that you wish there was something to blame for it not working out, but you ultimately know it’s up to you to keep trying. I have a problem of neglecting sleep for things like writing, band practices, working late nights to make up for missed work for music stuff. So much missed sleep that I tend to fall asleep at the wheel often, which would worry anyone’s mother.”
The debut album from Chico was produced by Taylor Hecocks at his home studio in Orange, CA with drums recorded with Adam Castilla at Brick Mansion Recordings in Fullerton. The record was mixed and mastered by Scott Goodrich from San Francisco.
Starting September 25th the band will join Death Lens on tour through Texas and California. Full dates below.
Chico is Lance Gibson – vocals, Tony Rangel – drums, Danny Chavez – guitar, Jake Palma – guitar, and Dawson Souisa – bass.
