Today, rising alternative rock artist Kind Villain shares his bold new single, “Bedroom Genius.” Kind Villain – a project led by Tampa Bay musician Ev Frederick – exudes a rock ‘n’ roll heart with a musical theater background. Working with multi-Platinum producer Paul Trust (Starset, Say Anything), “Bedroom Genius” bursts with urgency and zeal. Defiant vocals lead to infectious choruses addressing confidence and fear – “Never see me coming / I’m the best kept secret / I don’t want to be just a bedroom genius.” Surrounding Ev’s strong vocal delivery are layers of melody and guitar that build from the catchiness of pop-punk and hard-hitting fury of active rock into a brazen genre-blending sound.

Speaking on the track, Ev shares:
“‘Bedroom Genius’ for me personally is a song about the fear of isolation as a person and as an artist, the what if nobody cares mindset and the want for public approval, which can have a dark side. There’s so much going into the track, just like in an artist’s brain. Every time you listen to the song you can discover something new.”
“Bedroom Genius” follows Kind Villain’s well-received single “I’m A Little Off,” released earlier this year. “I’m A Little Off” is a powerful personal statement with a first-person reflection of dealing with neurodivergency and anxiety. You can watch the video HERE.
It’s not typical for a 13 year old to be sneaking into rock bars performing on stage at night, while starring in his school’s musical theater productions by day, but that’s the story of Ev Frederick’s life. Encouraged at a young age, he joined a Green Day cover band and then began to explore his own artist side and creativity. The Kind Villain project got started in 2021, first releasing covers and then stepping into the spotlight with singles such as “You’re the Reason I Need Pills to Sleep” and “This Is Not a Love Song, It’s a Cry for Help” combining alternative rock and pop music with sincere emotion. His songs started seeing local airplay and received a wider audience online, finding dedicated fans across TikTok and YouTube. In 2026, Kind Villain is ready for the world to know his name with the release of a full EP later this year.
