Indonesian purveyors of fierce and relentless brutal death metal, Vertiginous, started to make waves in the worldwide extreme music underground with their well-received 2024 debut album, Reek Of Putrefaction On Excruciating Lust – a grim and deftly decimating release. Now firmly ensconced in the ranks of Comatose Music’s battalions of destruction, the partners in unspeakable crimes, multi-instrumentalist Hendika Dwi Prasetyo and vocalist Jossi Bima, are set to unleash their second twisted creation – an album that raises the bar from their first assault in every aspect – Incessant Affliction!
Within moments of opening track, ‘Suffering, Misery And Slaughtering’ unsheathing its claws it is obvious that Incessant Affliction is far from a straightforward, one-dimensional brutal death metal attack. The array of top quality riffs on display is remarkable, an abundant arsenal of weapons of mass destruction! The individual performances from Prasetyo and Bima are magnificent, with Bima’s voice plumbing obscene depths that are beyond the reach of most vocalists – and most importantly the songs are second to none in a genre where brutality doesn’t always walk hand in hand with creativity and imagination. ‘Tortured With Endless Despair’ is the perfect example of the accomplished nature of Vertiginous’ songs, delivering vicious shocks that never allow the listener to settle, jarring thrusts of the knife when you least expect it. ‘Restrained In Obscurity’ meanwhile begins with an act of slow-motion dissection before a monstrous bass ushers in a cataclysmic bombardment of terrifying violence. From the calculated annihilation of ‘Crucified In Fate Hesitation’ to the obliterating ‘Incubated Inquietude’, Vertiginous have produced a masterclass of mind-warping, soul-twisting horror. When Incessant Affliction concludes with ‘Unclear Misery’, the battering blitzkrieg of drumming and wave after wave of riffs, all driven by that voice from the pits of torment, you will be left stunned, exhausted and broken – your appetite for grotesque savagery utterly sated.
Expertly mixed and mastered by the vastly experienced Endless Gruesome Studio team (Vile Desolation, Analtopsy etc) and featuring the always excellent artwork of Timbul Cahyono, aka Bvllmetalart (Avulsed, Defeated Sanity, Massacre etc), Incessant Affliction will be released by Comatose Music on August 7th.
