UK extreme metal outfit Tyrannus return with their sophomore album Mournhold, set to be released on May 15th via True Cult Records. Today, the band premiere the video for the lead single “Reignfall,” now playing via Invisible Oranges. Invisible Oranges commented on the track: “As the first single from Tyrannus’ upcoming sophomore record Mournhold, ‘Reignfall’ flaunts sharp riffs, barking vocals, and a tangible anger derived from this realm, shedding the veils of metaphor, allusion, and symbolism. The band had this to say about the new track: “Reignfall” is the opening statement of Mournhold, leaning heavily into our thrash roots to make something distinctly Tyrannus. It’s us at our most focused, fastest and aggressive; both musically and lyrically, and sets the tone for everything that will follow. Emerging from the UK metal underground in 2018, Tyrannus established their identity through an attack of death-thrashing black metal on their debut album Unslayable, an approach that now finds sharper focus and refinement on Mournhold. A sophomore effort that builds on the foundations of their earlier work while pushing into something more deliberate and uncompromising, Mournhold expands the Tyrannus sound. Drawing from 80s thrash, atmospheric black metal, and elements of post-punk, the album moves across a broader sonic landscape while maintaining a clear and unified direction. The result is an album that is ambitious yet focused, aggressive yet atmospheric, and precise, standing as the clearest representation of Tyrannus’ artistic vision to date.
