LA born and bred, Ando San has spent his career to date experimenting from release to release, pushing and pulling differening and dynamic aspects of his myriad influences, his output from instrumental math rock to jazzy hip-hop, with last year’s ‘OH KAY’ E.P finding him in harder-edged, boom-bap funk fusion territory. Today, he releases new single, ‘iLL’, following recent single, ‘Thick Neck’, a track that saw him channeling his metal origins with 2000’s hip-hop.
“iLL is a song that highlights how trying to build a career as an independent artist requires so much work and so many decisions to be made all the time, that it can physically make you unwell,” he shares. “Musically, this song is a culmination of my metal and hip hop roots. I’ve never really had harsh vocals in my music, and I’ve always been able to do it since I was a teenager – I actually started out as a metal vocalist before I was a rapper.”
