Formed in 2022 in the Spanish Balearic Islands by a group of seasoned and experienced musicians, SolNegre’s music is something that comes directly from the band members’ hearts. For them, their music is an essential expression of their true selves, an honest representation of everything they are and all that their lives have encompassed – all the doubt and anxiety, grief and pain that society dictates we should keep hidden behind our socially acceptable, superficial, smiling masks. Their debut album, The Spiral Labyrinth, was released in 2023 by Meuse Music Records and was embraced by fans and critics alike, with Broken Tomb Magazine describing it as a ‘downpour of sadness, drama and anger’. An independently released EP, Annihilation Of The Self, followed in 2024 with the wave of support for SolNegre continuing to grow – No Clean Singing embracing this release as something ‘to keep coming back to again and again’. And now the time has come for the second full length album from SolNegre, the soul-shaking magnificence of Anthems For The Grand Collapse…
From the first notes of opening track, ‘The Axiom / Song For The Inert Part II’, Anthems For The Grand Collapse draws you from the light, into its shadowed embrace. While its songs unfold you are held within that darkness, riding the waves of overwhelming emotion – the outside world, lost. These five vast tracks of expansive, doom/death bring together grand art and raw, human emotion, each traversing breathtaking musical landscapes. With each play you will discover new moments of magic – the sublime bass work in ‘The Hollow Inside’, the stunning female vocal performance that shines from ‘In The Stillness Of The Womb’, the understated guitar melodies that wind their way through the impenetrable night of ‘A Path Of Aloneness (I & II)…these sonic treasures are countless. Anthems For The Grand Collapse is also one of those rare albums where the poetry of the lyrics is as affecting as the music, their stories and sentiments powerfully communicated by the impassioned, articulate vocal performances. SolNegre’s hold on your heart will last long after the silence falls at album’s end.
For the recording of Anthems For The Grand Collapse, SolNegre returned to the familiar climes of Diorama Sound in Mallorca, a place the band refer to as their ‘shelter’. And why would they venture elsewhere when the results achieved there are nothing short of spectacular? The organic beauty, the resonance, clarity and power of the sound on Anthems For The Grand Collapse is simply magnificent. The album will be released on CD and digital formats on April 3rd by Meuse Music Records, with the physical version also including the Annihilation Of The Self EP. With the addition of some outstanding artwork from Hans Trasid (Aara, Cuttered Flesh, Phobetor etc) Anthems For The Grand Collapse is a quite staggering achievement. This is doom/death metal at its most powerful, creative, honest and engaging. SolNegre are becoming something very special indeed.
